Shogun 2 Install and Start Problem

Hi, right i got the game for christmas having played the demo and begging relatives for it, i installed it via the discs around 15 gb then it started its update, a further 5gb which took for ever! then if i try to start the game either from steam or the disc, it loads to a shogun 2 screen on a kind of yellow paper background and then will not advance to the actual game and if i then use the task manager it reports that the game is not responding. I would post my DxDiag but i dont know how, as you may have gathered i am not that computer literate.

any help would be great as my conquest of japan has been halted long enough!

The first time you play it can take 10-15 minutes on that first screen while it sets itself up, so it may be worth waiting a bit longer.
