My main pitfall in battle is leaving non-melee units unguarded. Too many times have my serpentines or archers been annihilated by a fast cavalry charge and I haven't had spear troops to deflect the attack. I would say I am quite good with the tactical side of attack though. Give and take.

Biggest error for me in my battles; stamina. I've no problem with getting my units to the enemy, but getting them there often tires them out to the point where routing might happen. I've had two fights against the Portuguese, and both times been pretty costly in terms of men. The one I'm going on about was in my French campaign on a defensive battle...the Portuguese weren't advancing. The terrain wasn't too bad, so I decided I'd send some feudal knights (dismounted) to knock out their siege equipment, which I did. However, all the infantry was very far back, with their archers close enough to fire on my guys. All if not most of their infantry was further back and on a decent sized hill. Now, had they been advancing, I would have drew my knights back to the interior of the city, so my archers and crossbow men could have picked them off. But how'd it go? I put my archers outside of the city walls, where they were promptly chased all over Hell by the Portuguese cavalry. Point being; I suck when it comes to stamina.
