getting experience for spectating in fots

i played one match in multiplayer that was my first.i got 247 exp and unlocked a province after that i was a spectator in another game.the host lost most of his cavalry in the game and was fighting an enemy whose infantry where on a hill.they were shooting arrows from a good range and if he assaulted he would've lost.i decided the game was over and dropped. i check my profile later and i had gained experience and got rank 1 from 0 .checked my stats and i had won the battle even though i wasn't a part of it, i was just a spectator.i unlocked another province is this a bug?
