Difference between Gold and Warlord edition?

Just curious what the differences are.
All I know of is the movie intro in the Warlord edition.

Warlords and Gold are both complete (for Single Player) and almost identical,

GOLD and Era's version are identical (differences in loading screens and legals only)
Warlords is the single edition version (one pack) of the original Shogun "+" Mongols expansion - they both build to the same version.
(i have all four versions here)

the difference's are

warlords is CD and Gold/Era are DVD,

warlords is internet access capable right out of the box, Gold/Era are not internet capable without some tweaking

warlords can use the community servers for onlne play with a minor tuneup, Gold/Era needs that tweaking i told you about earlier, plus it then needs a tuneup
BUT Gold/Era cannot talk to warlords, Gold/Era can ONLY talk to Gold/Era Versions

For SinglePlayer - go for Gold,
but if you want to play online then i would buy both Warlords and Gold, that way you can play online no matter what
(remember you'll need the tweak and tuneup from the community over at totalwar.Org)

Gold - can be had for under $10(USD) - do not be fooled, read all details, some SHOPS online are claiming GOLD is Warlords, even going so far as to display the cover from Warlords PC version (Gold is DVD). Typically they have a disclaimer somewhere, if uncertain ASK before you buy.

Shogun Warlords can be had for a few dollars on ebay ($6USD is typical)
(make absolutely sure its the orig Warlords CD version, and NOT Gold)

IF you find a copy of orig Shogun (red CD), then you'll need a copy of Mongol Expansion (brown CD - with bald dude on it),
(there are a few of orig and mongols around, usually $2(USD))
(and a very few New In Box too)

When you say 'four versions' does that mean
Gold
Warlord
Eras
Separate games? ie Shogun '+' Mongol?

Do you have any information on the 'Medieval: Total War' compilations, i.e Battle Pack, Gold, Eras, Separate games?

Gold Edition and the STW disc in Eras are the same.

MTW:
1. MTW release
2. Viking Invasion expansion pack release
3. MTW Battle Collection (MTW+VI, 3CDs)
4. MTW Gold Edition (MTW+VI, single DVD)

Eras is a boxset that contains the Gold Editions of STW, MTW and RTW.

you forgot to mention that the warlords edition has an intro movie with scenes from the japanese film (RAN) which helped to inspire the game. search it on youtube.

I've been looking for a copy of the old Shogun Total war 1.

I think, I had warlord edition on my 98SE comp. Sadly I can't find it anywhere (in the netherlands), except maybe dvd-rom (my 98SE only has a cd-rom player).

Would really love to dig up an old copy of STW1.

I still have good memories of that game (not counting the port bug).
