I managed to resolve this just now. It seems to have been an issue with the ATI supplied drivers I was using, so what I ended up doing what uninstalling them and then downloading drivers that were supplied through windows update.

Can you give more details Pie Lord? What kind of card, what OS? Which drivers did you have installed, which did you change to exactly?

A second DxDiag with just the video tab would be useful, yes.
Pielord is using a 4800 series AMD card. Any Nvidia users experience this issue?

Ah yes i see his dxdiag on the previous page. I am going to try this when I get home and will report on how I go.

I can kind of confirm this. Running W7 64 /w a HD4870. I ripped out my official ATI drivers (11.4 preview, was using 11.2 before that) and did the windows update to the latest. They didn't work, however I did a rollback to the "stock" drivers (4/25/2009) and all settings are open now! Weird... going to play around with some older ATI packages and see what happens.

Hey guy, that first dxDiag of Pielord's shows he was using older drivers than you and THOSE DIDNT WORK. We need to see exactly WHAT he got off of windows in his dxdiag to see the version.... Further, Ianos info indicated you might have to dig back farther.
