Ability to proceed leaves.

I have figured out it isn't crashing. But when I get to the menu I have about 10 seconds of choosing time. So basically how it works is I click grand campaign and then I don't even look through the factions anymore because I want to play but I can't play because for some reason I can't choose anything. This happens no matter what feature I choose. Wheather it is instant battles, changing of the graphics, or any other option on the primary menu page, I am in every instances upon ignition allowed a very short time to continue until finally the total war mouse is gone and the computer mouse is avaible. I am confused by this. Any help would be appreciated.
