Indeed, there is nothing forcing you to play AoS. There are many great editions of Warhammer to play, I suggest you pick the one you enjoy the most and roll with that, or jump onboard with the 9th age people. Personally I am happy with the 8th edition rules, I like the hardback books etc and so am just going to continue on with that
I am happy with 8th too but I am definitely going to try 9th when I get my armies redone . Might try Kings of War, but it seems a little simplistic for my liking
