During the late campaign, generally around when or after Archaon shows up, I've noticed that I tend to have a lot of disposable income, and more often than not I've created entire armies out of Steam tanks, Terrorghiests, even once did it with Kohlek and a bunch of shaggoths, and I've noticed that the armies, though very expensive admittedly, are way OP and are not very fun to play. As I'm sure that I'm not the only one with this problem, I think that I've come up with a solution to increase army diversity.
Rather than nerfing the units, nerf the number allowed in the campaign (not custom battles though please, as 40 Steam Tanks vs 40 Giants makes for an interesting scenario) to be between 5-10. I chose those numbers because, barring special named units, if a unit type has a limit cap below five, players tend to have a "why bother?" attitude towards getting it while more than ten would still result in the current situation. For instance, the Empire would only be able to field 8 Steam Tanks (why 8? that's how many are left according to lore) while Chaos would only be able to field five Shaggoths (they are supposed to be really old and thus really rare) but the Greenskins would be able to field 10 giants (as they are supposed to be somewhat common). Perhaps you can tie the limits to the campaign faction abilities?
Hoping the my idea gains some traction, CenturionsofRome
Tired of the greenskins running around with 3 giants, 3 trolls, 10 units of ranged (mostly cavalry) and the rest handful of various infantry. Every army is exactly the same and as chaos, there's nothing I can do against gobo spider riders set to skirmish. I just swarm the monsters with infantry and kill their lord then wait for the rest of the army to run out of moral.
I've seen a mod to make armies more realistic but I would really rather CA fix things before I start getting mods.

Yeah, the only mods I've used is mostly aesthetics. Would rather have CA make new stuff, it's always better.
I hate hard caps, they ruin games. The better thing to do that nerf is to buff a possible counter into alignment to deal with the problem.
For instance, Artillery is a primary method of downing Giants and what not. Increase their damage towards them and it leaves Giants and other monsters able to deal mass damage in combat while having a suitable counter. Likewise, an army consisting of nothing but monstrous creatures can be better dealt with, although the AI rarely spams anything bar Pistoliers and other ranged cav.
There are always better ways around things than making things weaker or capped, it just takes some dialogue.
Can't you just... you know... DON'T make armies containing only best units in the whole game?
You are breaking the game on your own wish. That's how it works. And AI doesn't recruit armies full of these units either. There's nothing to change IMO, really.
