SolvedBrutal frame drops and sound stuttering

Hey,

I'm running the game on a Windows 7 systems with 8GB of RAM, an Intel Core I7-5700HQ processor and a Nvidia GTX960m graphics card.

The game runs quite smoothly even on quality graphics, but if I play more than 5 minutes, in campaign mode as well as battle mode, it regularly does a brutal frame drop, with sound stuttering, likes if my PC just lost 90% of its power, for 10-15 seconds, and then come back to normal.

Even if it doesn't impede me to play, it is very frustrating to pause the game every minute, especially in long battles.

As it appears I am not the first to encounter the problem, I already looks for solution and already tried:
  • Lowering graphics to minimum.
  • Run the game in windowed mode.
  • Update my Nvidia drivers, or try to roll back to older drivers from some months ago.
  • Turn steam in offline mode.
  • Higher processus priority with tasks manager.
  • Deactivate virtualisation technology in bios (a solution that I found on this discution).

But nothing worked.

Is there anything else I can try ?

    Hey,

Thanks for the report, please can you ensure you are plugged into the power and you have the 'high performance' power plan selected and let us know if that makes any difference.

    Thanks very much,
    Guy

    Hey,

I am well plugged into power, but I had the "balanced" power plan selected.
I changed for "high performance", but I didn't notice any difference.

I also tried every solution suggested by Mathias in this discution except the 3 last ones, but nothing worked.

Actually I am trying another solution that seems to work for some people: limit the game framerate to 30. But I don't know how I am supposed to do it. Could you help me with that?

    Thanks for your time.

    Hey,

I believe this tutorial has been used before:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pH9D__g1yqs

Do let me know how you get on. Not sure if you have already tried this but completely uninstalling and reinstalling your graphics drivers has a high success rate.

    Good luck,
    Guy

Thanks for the tutorial, but to set a framerate limit didn't worked.

I just did it again. Didn't worked either.

Have you ever experienced this issue with other similarly demanding games?

I tried to run different games - including Total War: Attila with high graphics settings, and I didn't get this frame drops effect.

    Hi guys,

Can i ask you how you completely uninstall your graphics drivers ?

Cause the only thing i know how to do is going in "add or delete a program" and take off the last version of the driver showed in (368.81 in this case).

Everything else from Nvidia is uninstall and reinstall with the driver when i try (date of installation is 27/07/16 for the different elements of Nvidia --> I reinstalled 368.81 yesterday).

The only thing who stay at the date of 24/05/16 is "Nvidia physX system software". Can i uninstall and reinstall it directly ? If YES, how could i find it for download ? It's not like a driver that can be take on Nvidia site, right ?

    Thanks,

    Infernys

    Hey,

We are unable to provide specifics on that process here as it requires 3rd party software but search for a tutorial from a reputable source, you should find it fairly easily.

@Aracthor Can you please try going through the programs you have running and ensuring there is nothing that could be impacting your performance including any optimisation software.

    Thanks,
    Guy

I did with Wiit ndows task manager, nothing else was running.

But I have got a new clue: the more I keep playing the game, the more frame drops are long and numerous. But if I restart the game, it doesn't appear to "reset" the frame drops effect. So I believe it may be a CPU/GPU heat problem.
I will try to clean my laptop to see if it was a cooling problem.

UPDATE: The problem become more persistent each day, and now it started to appear on other games.

So whatever the reason is, it is not because of Total War: Warhammer.

I feel confuse to have wasted your time.

UPDATE 2: Solved it. Finally, it was just a heat problem. I just cleaned my laptop with an air duster, and now there is no problem at all.

I should have checked other games more conscientiously.

    Thanks for your patience.

wait.... it is just cleaning the fan ?

I try to find a fixes for 2 months by update from Window 7 to Window 8.1 , disable VT in BIOS , set affinity , disable core and other even playing in lowest setting for weeks and still got stuttering and now finally found someone who get it fixed just
    by cleaning a Fan ?

Funny but hope it will work for me, i will give a try tomorrow.

    Thank you very much
