[M2][Win10] Change compatibility for Kingdoms DLC

Hello, I've just decided to have a game of M2 after a few years away, but can't start the Kingdoms. I can get M2 to start with no problems, by changing compatibility to win8, but it seems that steam have changed the game so that what was a separate kingdoms.exe is no longer there, the DLC seem to be stored now as a pack in a mod folder.
When I try to launch via steam, I get a mini launcher to select which part, any of the DLC have the same result-the initial splash screen, and then CTD, no error message or anything.
Does anyone have any ideas please?
