So i have lots of crashes when i go play single player campaign, I get game freeze but i still can click in-game button such as pressing Esc and click in the Menu and any button that the game screen is frozen on. Also i can still hear the game playing or continuing even if the screen froze, Example the game froze while im in a battle then the screen will be frozen but the battle and music will still continue to play in the background I guess this would be called a Hang? or freeze? This screen freeze/hang i get a lot often and the black screen crash i get is least often,But the black screen would sometime crash with a black screen and then restart my computer without me doing so. I was able the play a couple of months back before any of this happened but now it just frustrating to even play, i cant even play the game anymore.
Ok so it turns out that if i got into full screen or windowed mode that is 1920x1080 than the game freezes or crashes but if im not in 1920x1080 then im fine. I'm in window mode with 1768x992 currently and the game runs fine but i would like to have my fullscreen back. i'm not sure why full screen causes the game to freeze and crash but if anyone knows how to fix this please let me know.
ok never mind it, it's still happened, even when its windowed mode it's still freezing while the game and music still continues behind the frozen screen or black screen.
I am having this same issue, was about to post my own thread. I went from the occasional freeze a few weeks ago, to the game being unplayable. I rolled back my driver and it did the same thing. I think it might be a warhammer update that caused it.
Add me to the list of people who are having this issue. I've been trying to fix this issue for a few weeks now. Here's a list of things I've tried that didn't help:
- rolling the drivers back - turning off steam overlay - doing a clean uninstall of my drivers using DDU and reinstalling - reformatting my whole damn computer
I've seen multiple people in the forum having having this issue. It would be great to have an actual response from the team. Does anyone know if there's a way to log an error report directly with CA, instead of having to rely on user moderated forums?

If you have an Nvidia card, running GF Experience is not recommended as some of the encoding options and other factors add unnecessary complications to running some applications (it can give problems or less than optimal results for a number of games).
The latest Nvidia driver _does_ solve _some_ of the encoding and possibly other problems, (which you can read in the detailed driver notes for 378.78). If you haven't any trouble you can see with GF E or that last driver/GF E update solved your problems, that's great.
If not, generally speaking, GeForce Exp is not recommended, nor is any Razer Software. While we can say that generally the Stats manager is a problem for a larger swath of people, it is not clear that some of the other Razer software may not be a problem for a smaller selection, since the complete removal of the larger suite can alleviate issues for others.
Most other problems reduce to incompletely removed mods that conflict and/or mods that are still out of date with the newest game update or may claim to be up to date but are not.
In a few cases there are some corrupt files or corrupt drivers, and a lobotomy and shuffle will solve those. Give me a PM if you want help with one of these... ~Al

I've been trying to solve this problem for months now, communicating with Sega support, to no avail.
Sadly the two solutions suggested above have not solved the issue for me. The screen in battles is still either freezing or going black mid way through, with the battle sounds continuing underneath.
Any more suggestions guys? The two solutions suggested above weren't actually for this issue.
I tried support and everything from old drivers to complete wipe and install. My game worked fine until something on my computer updated. I still think it was a TW WH update. I went back several video drivers with no luck. I never was able to fix the problem. Basically waiting till I can afford a new video card and hope that fixes it..... Good luck. Mine only went black on the strategic map, never in battle.
Also having the same problem. been playing the game fine since launch, then a few months ago my screen randomly kept freezing in the middle of battles. Can also verify the above fixes did not help, they seem to be for other problems entirely.
I hope people are following this. I tried one last time to research this online. I found a reference that says to log out of steam, then log in using offline mode. I tried this and have played 2 hours without the black screen.
Can some of you try this? If we have a few people, we may be able to submit for a fix. Many people are having this in the TW francises....
Thanks, Please post your results with amount of ingame time after playing.
Ended up with several freezes that did not go to a black screen.
I installed MSI afterburner and reduced gpu core clock by 10%. I have played about 5 hours straight without any freezes or crashes........... I am back in online mode as well.
@Nkferg is your graphics card a pre-overclocked edition, or has previously run in a boosted performance mode of some description? It's interesting to me that under-clocking your GPU that you're able to resolve your issue.
Would you be able to post the brand and model of your graphics card? This might help others identify their issue, and potentially highlight a compatibility issue which we'd need to investigate.
Thank you

Good idea... Zotac GeForce 780 GTX I believe it is the AMP edition. No overclocking by me. Intel i7-4790k CPU @ 4.00 Ghz 4 Core No overclocking, Corsair Hydro cooler 8 gigs of Ram Win 10 Currently Nvidea 384.76 drivers TW WH no mods installed.
This system ran TW WH fine on a 4k monitor for about 6 months before the black screen started up.....
The Zotac Geforce 780 GTX AMP! edition is Zotac's factory overclocked edition. This might explain why lowering the clock fixed the black screen issue for you. It could be that the hardware was failing. That's only a theory though.

I'm currently testing this idea... so far seems to be working but I need to run it longer to see. Will let you know.
I managed to solve my issue ihad with the black screen. I deleted my preference file and replaced it by the one provided by CA in these forums. Then i put my windows in 800x600 resolution and started up the game. I ten let it run for 5 minutes after turnung it off again. After that, i restarted my PC, turned my windows resolution back to normal, started the game and put my graphics the way i liked them ( i left the shadow detail off). I then started a campaign and started playing. I never had the black screen again.
1. Change your screen resolution in Windows settings to minimal (800*600 for me) 2. Download the attached preferences script file. 3. Open Windows Explorer and type into the address bar "%Appdata%\The Creative Assembly\Warhammer2\scripts" then hit Return/ enter 4. Delete/ Replace the preferences script in this folder with the one you have just downloaded 5. Launch the game 6. Escape the game 7. Change your screen resolution in Windows settings to normal
After these simple manipulations, your game have to work without crashes. Now you may change your Warhammer 2 video settings.
It helped me after 5 hours of trying litterally everything i see described in this thread, i hope it helps you guys aswell.
I think the antivirus could be my problem, which files do I need to add the the exclusion list? I can't add the entire game folder, my antivirus (McAfee) only lets me specify files. I don't know what I need to do. Thanks

Hello,
In order to troubleshoot the issue, please follow these steps and try running the game after each one:
1) Check the Steam client Properties:

- Check that the “Steam.exe” application file is not being run in “Compatibility mode” and that you are running it as an Administrator. To check this, right-click on the file and select “Properties”, then the “Compatibility” tab
2) Look for Steam client updates:
- Open Steam
- Click on the top left menu: "Steam" and select "Check for Steam Client Updates..."
- Steam will restart automatically if an update needs to be applied
3) Verify the integrity of the game’s cache (again):
- From the Steam Games Library, right-click on TW: Warhammer and select "Properties" from the menu
- Select the Local files tab and click the "Verify integrity of game cache..." button
- Steam will verify the game cache files - this process may take several minutes
- If Steam finds that some files need to be reacquired, repeat the verification process once more
4) Disable your Antivirus and any other security software:
You should be able to temporarily deactivate your Antivirus by right-clicking on its icon in the notification area, next to the system clock. If you cannot deactivate the Antivirus using this method, please refer to the instructions from your software provider.
If you continue encountering the same issue, please reply to this email so we can offer additional help.
