Hey everybody, my game keeps crashing whenever i try to load a battle/campaign or start a new one.
My drivers are up to date and the game integrity is fine according to steam. I already got rid of geforce experience since that crashed other games. Even when completely re-installing the game i still get crashes. I checked if it was overheating but it isn't, i can play the Witcher 3 on ultra without going over 50c.

I have mods installed, but even when I play the game without any mods (completely deleting them), the game still crashes, the game was running fine for 50+ hours...

crash report:

    @brammo1991 when you deleted the mods did you also clean the relevant files in the Appdata folder.

    @thechipiron if you are not using mods you may have a different issue. Please start your own thread using the template provided here https://forums.totalwar.com/discussion/173603/please-read-if-you-experience-a-crash-hang-freeze#latest

    @BillyRuffian Yup i deleted the mods and the files. Also, i validated the integrity of the files. But the crashes still happen, I just started a Norsca campaign, but it froze and crashed in battle and on the campaign map within 15 minutes of the game.

    @CA_Matthew Yes it is, the following:

    artwork_loadingscreens.pack unknown file
    artwork_loadingscreens.png unknown file
    better_camera_mod.pack unknown file
    better_camera_mod.png unknown file
    data_no.pack unknown file
    generals_lvl_60.pack unknown file
    generals_lvl_60.png unknown file
    minor_settlement_campaign.pack unknown file
    minor_settlement_campaign.png unknown file
    prometheus_skill_points_renewed.pack unknown file
    prometheus_skill_points_renewed.png unknown file

    considering these are all mods, i will delete them (again) and try again

    @brammo1991 it might be re-downloading them. Please make sure you're not 'subscribed' to any mods on Steam workshop.

    @CA_Matthew Tried the game without mods, crashed when loading into a new campaign.

    the only ''unknown'' thing is this: data_no.pack unknown file

    And you're 100% sure you're not subscribed to any mods on Steamworks? @brammo1991

    I'd suggest when in doubt, fully uninstall TW: W, making sure there's nothing left in the steamapps/common folder referring to the title, then re-installing.

    In addition you should also delete the following folders in %appdata%\The Creative Assembly\Warhammer

    advice_history
    army_setups
    battle_preferences
    fx_cache
    ui_cache
    Scripts

    @brammo1991 to check to see if you're subscribed to any mods. Go to Steam, TW: W Steamworks page then under the 'Browse' drop down select 'Subscribed items'. If your list is empty then you're good to go!

    @CA_Matthew Yup 100% sure, the steam list is empty and the launcher does not show anything in the mod manager mode either. I'm not sure, but could it be a hardware issue? I have total war on my exception list for windows defender so i don't think its an antivirus issue.

    I have deleted the files and am currently i am re-downloading it in steam for the re-install.

    See added DxDiag.

    Thanks for the update @brammo1991

    I'm attaching a really low spec preferences script for you to use.

    Replace it here %appdata%\The Creative Assembly\Warhammer\scripts

    I'd recommend trying this as well if you haven't already.
    • Open Steam using Run as Administrator.
    • From the top menu select Steam>Settings>Downloads>Steam Library Folders.
    • Select the folder containing the game installation, right-click, and select Repair Library Folder.
    • Then clear your Steam download cache.

    I have a gtx960 and a ryzen 5, so i suspect the graphics wont be a problem.
    But i will try it out none the less.

    As soon as the game is done installing i will give you an update

    Ahh a Ryzen.. A number of people have said that the latest chipset driver from AMD has resolved their TW: W booting/crashing issues. Maybe do a search on AMD and see if there's an update for yours?

    @CA_Matthew so far so good, i think the problem could be the ''unlimited memory'' option, when turned off, the game seems to run quite smooth.. so far.

    @CA_Matthew

    The game is crashing again, i followed the same steps, but it does not seem to work anymore.

    The log says the following:

    device_description = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960"
    vendor_id = 0x10de
    device_id = 0x1401
    in_database = TRUE
    found_vendor_device_ids = FALSE
    matched_device_description = "GeForce GTX 960"
    final_quality = 2
    m_gpu_memory_type_final = 1
    vista_or_later = TruE
    sixty_four_bit_OS = tRUE
    integrated_gpu = fAlSe
    uma_64_bit = FAlSE
    available.unlimited_video_memory = TRUe
    current.unlimited_video_memory = FalsE

    Any advice?
