Why can we never play as Pirates?

(I know this is a off topic forum but there's no general Discussion)

Why is it we can never play as the pirates. I know it sounds odd but havnt you ever wanted to play as them.
There the bad guy. The raiders of the seas. And no the Mori arnt a Pirate gang.
It would be awesome.
my Ideas on how it would work
Pirates would have a 15% higher chance of capturing ships.
Pirate leaders or agents can stay at sea as long as there boat stays afloat.
Most Pirate land units only have ammo for 1 shot.
Pirate fleets can go a mile further on the map.

what do you think

Leader ideas
Blackbeard (Edward Teach)
Grace O'Malley
Black Bart
Henry Every (Avery)
Henry Morgan
Calico Jack (Jack Rackham)
Barbarossa (meaning Red Beard) the nickname of Khair ad Din
Captain Kidd

Because pirates do not operate in the faction-style that TW plays on. Organization and hierarchy among pirates vary widely. Some are democratic, some are chaotic, some are authoritarian and some are merely privateers working for more legitimate entities. I can't imagine there being a pirate faction in the sense of a regular one, with a faction leader, heir, generals and the organization need to develop said faction and its holdings. That's not to mention that at some point said faction would expand and end up becoming ust like a regular faction, just with a unique starting phase- one that other regular factions can do anyways.

Corrected action is the most sincere form of apology.

You could roleplay one of your fleets as being a bunch of privateers. I've done that a few times.

Well to be fair CA have taken liberties with factions for gameplay purposes and player enjoyment, such as the Britons and Gauls in Rome who were just large groups of competing tribes thoughin Rome were bundled up into two nations. I don't see why the pirates wouldn't be a fun faction to play as, and if the player wasn't playing as them they would have minor nation AI and be defensive and not expand overly much but if the player were to play as them they could play them however they wanted.

A pirate faction would be a great idea. I'm saying this after having just come from playing Secret of Monkey Island so my views might be a little influenced by that but w/e. Moar piratez plz.

The plebs do make a horrendous sound when they're happy.

More pirates eh? I remember this one ETW preview with a female interviewer and Kieran and all they wanted to talk about was whether there were pirates in the game. Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom infatuation of some sort I'm guesing.

In all seriousness, you could have Pirates: Total War...with regionalised pirate factions.

There was an awful lot of effort put into closing down the various pirate mobs during the 17 and 1800's, on a global scale. They never got rid of them...now they are called 'lawyers'.

Pirates took over many caribean islands and towns
it would be fun to make naval combat the main way to fight

I could see it now the factions would be the crews of
    Blackbeard (Edward Teach)
    Grace O'Malley
    Black Bart
    Henry Every (Avery)
    Henry Morgan
    Calico Jack (Jack Rackham)
Barbarossa (meaning Red Beard) the nickname of Khair ad Din
    Captain Kidd

and basically spend your time capturing every island in the Caribbean and killing off other pirates.
depending on what faction you choose changes what time it is and what other factions you half to fight

Pretty much. You sail around the Caribbean in your pirate ship, you can attack other ships in one on one combat to steal their goods. You can also put in to ports to recruit new crew members, receive missions, and even romance beautiful Governor's Daughters! Then there's an actual storyline you can get involved with if you want, where you have to rescue your kidnapped family members from the evil Marquis de Montalban and the dastardly Baron Raymondo. You can discover lost Native cities, dig up buried treasure and do battle with other famous pirates. There's also a turn based land battle system where you lead your crew against cities and their defenders, if you win you sack the settlement, and can even replace the governor with one of another nation who's more friendly to you. Or if the life of crime doesn't appeal, you can side with either the English, French, Dutch or Spanish and become a Privateer.
