Mortal Empires Map = Revealed (Officially)

EDIT 2: A glimpse of the official map.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Was browsing Total Warredit, and well..
Just posting it here so everyone can see, the GCCM team have stumbled upon something.. Rather interesting!

The original post, by Mazdoeka:

"I made this from a combination of files that CA left in the game. The text is the overlay, which as you can see here matches up perfectly with the old world as well. The map itself is actually the map of sea colours. Bet you didn't think we'd find that, right CA? ;)
Edit: Imgur absolutely is refusing to upload at the moment, but here is a version with the old world map included. I can upload a higher quality version to imgur later if anyone would be interested in that. The high quality version is also already on the GCCM patreon page.
Edit edit: Before anyone asks, there are 295 regions in the Mortal Empires campaign, there were 142 in TWW1, and there were 225 in the Vortex Campaign."

Thank you guys for this great find!

EDIT: Provided the list of Provinces/Settlements of the Mortal Empires map. You can identify the Provinces on the map, and then check the settlements within that province.

Aside from Hellpit and Skavenblight, the merging of Bret Provinces, what I found most interesting is that the Chaos Wastes is actually a Province now!

Ugh! I really hope thats not it. Though it sets the stage for the eventual addition of the Dark Lands, its only going to catch the very edge of the Mountains of Mourn and MOST CRITICALLY, it KILLS the South Lands.

Also, wow, is it even bunched up to cut out the ocean.

Let's make up some believable lore for it..

"And so one fateful day, the Slann decided to shift the tectonic plates of every continent, in hopes crashing them into one another, killing all the warm-bloods so the Chosen Ones finally rule the WORLD!"

Will CA really going to cut the western part of Lustria and Naggaroth; southern part of Southlands and Lustria as well?

It does, and that was confirmed when the Mortal Empires settlements were leaked about a week ago. 2 provinces, including Lahmia, will be there.

there is really alot of water there to the right, perfect for my tresure hunting lord or a secret blackark : >

    Arsenic likes this not.

There's not enough water separating Ulthuan from everyone else, ruining how I was planning on playing the game. Hah bumhug.

It looks like some really weird, yet interesting scenarios are going to happen. DElfs conquering Norsca early on, for example.

And the Bleak Coast - Tiranoc wars, oh god.. Probably 1 turn away from each other. They might just as well add some land bridge, it doesn't make sense to embark, just so you disembark 2 meters on the other side.
  • jamreal18jamreal18 Senior Member Posts: 8,589Registered Users
You don't need to build ships between Ulthuan and Naggaroth... They are too close... Just swim...
  • RhyndirRhyndir Posts: 251Registered Users
I think this looks pretty ok, you cannot make it with original scale

I feel sorry for the HE fans who wanted to turtle in their island, isolated, in peace. Enemies will pour upon Ulthuan from every direction.

Worst part is, in the Vortex, they had the Norscans close to them. Now Norsca and Albion are moved back to their original positions. Instead, you'll probably be facing Bret Crusades. Welp, For za lady, eh?

Albion is a big island, sad we will not have it. In this map for me the only strange things is Ulthuan, the sea it's very narrow. There is no feel of an ocean, I understand that they want every faction interact but why a Bretonnia should deal with a second neighborhood of elves since the first turn? Now it's not Bretonna with the Wood Elves, but Bretonnia sandwiched by Elves.

So Albion is in the map? I thought it was gonna be cut.

the old world have the same shape of the first game, and Albion was there since the first game, nothing new there. Albion was cut mean that the area it's without a settlement. Also Sartosa it's on the map since game one, but it's part of Luccini region.

So Albion is in the map? I thought it was gonna be cut.

the Island itself had already been in TW WH I, but it was (and still looks that way) just a random piece of land without any provinces to own
Every wrong is recorded. Every slight against us, page after page, ETCHED IN BLOOD! Clan Gunnisson! Karak Eight Peaks! JOSEF BUGMAN!"

CA hates the Empire confirmed. The FLC LL for the new Lord Pack is Gor-Rok. Meaning the Empire still hasn't gotten their FLC LL. And no, moving Balthasar Gelt from Reikland, where he should be, DOES NOT COUNT. If they wanted a LL in the Southern Empire: Marius Leitdorf of Averland or maybe Elspeth von Draken in Nuln...

Where is Boris Todbringer? Have you seen him?

I want an Araby DLC even more now.. The best starting position TBH.

No enemies from the south, a good amount of water from the west and north (more than the other continents at least), and the only worry would be the TK in the east.

Okay, I understand making the map smaller and squishing it for gameplay reasons, but this is just TOO small. Like, WAY too small and squished. If I trip in Naggarythe I'd end up in Naggaroth. I think the BOTET mod for TW:WH2 did the same idea of the map a lot better. It was smaller than the scale map but it still looked good I felt. This just doesn't.

Note I am talking about the 1.5 beta map, not the 1.0 map.
  • NazjaxNazjax Posts: 550Registered Users
I hope the southlands jungles and shiftings sands fit a bit better than here, look's a bit sad that they are at the same place, on the lore the red rivers (southlands jungles) are supposed to be on the south of the shiftings sands, and it was pretty good on the vortex campaign.

Ian did say it feels a lot bigger than it looks from a top down perspective. And if you look at it, it is still at least 2 turns in forced march at sea between Bretonia and Ulthuan and one each side embarking/disembarking. To the west it looks like some of that gray area on the black coast is just water colour and not land, and the Islands on the west of Ulthuan might not be traversable. So maybe 2 turns at sea and 1 each again for ship building. I agree it looks WAY too squished as is but maybe playing it won't feel that way. What I don't get is why spend so much time discrediting the datamine map only to release the exact map.... I'm still holding out hope that this is not the final map and we will see just a little more south and a bit more sea to separate Ulthuan.
  • Surge_2Surge_2 Posts: 1,596Registered Users
The saddest loss is the minor islands, and a BIT more space to the East, and a LOT of the South. I can see why they would cut it down, as smart money says most of the players are going to be central starting (Empire/Bret/Vamp) but if they leave those islands and jungle in, it adds colour to the wider world.
  • HorskiHorski Posts: 38Registered Users
Also to point out, he said he made this map from files left in the game. Mortal empires is a new map and isn't going to use the map files already in the game. Data tables will be the same but the map itself is not already in the game. Correct me if I am wrong here but I think we can still hope!
  • Surge_2Surge_2 Posts: 1,596Registered Users
They wouldnt have developed area's that do not appear in the Vortex (of which there are many) unless the 'complete' map was somewhere in the files, like this.

I think its more likely that this is it, than it is that it isnt if that makes sense.

Wow really disappointed with this. I know CA arnt going to change it, but it looks so odd and cuts out large parts of the southlands and lustria.
Also we are going to lose alot of WH1 races that are in the new world, which means fighting less varied armies at the start of the game.

This is made me a bit upset, was so looking forward to this feature but cant get over that map. Think they need to increase the oceans a bit and add more land. It all looks to close together.
The factions all start so close together that playing that it is likely most will be wiped out before you see them.

Dont see Araby DLC happening with this map, the southlands looks to small for another major faction along TK.

Not massively interested in the races in game 3, so if this is mortal empire's map dont think I will get game 3.

Seems just a little smaller than i'd like. And i surely hope Ulthuan isn't literally in Lustria!
