Empire: Total War multiplayer problem

My question has to do with a problem in the multiplayer on Empire: Total War. My friend and I wanted to play each other while we were hanging out, so we went to the multiplayer section. He created the battle as host, and when I went to join the battle it would load for a little while then gave me a frustrating message which read, "Failed to join game: Host not responding." I have searched the internet for any information I could find on this matter and I found nothing helpful to my problem. Please help me so I can solve this problem and be able to battle against my friend. P.S. if this can help we both have MacBooks and bought the game from the app store not steam which is what many other forums were mentioning. Thanks

I think its a network issue i had this tried every setting and adjustment on the internet i could find and gave up , next day it worked fine .
