Sound cuts out in battles

  • Build Number: 1.0.0 11479.1360569
  • Detailed description of your issue:
Sound cuts out during certain battles. This most often occurs during siege battles, where many troops are standing around shouting and arrows are being fired. It happens occasionally during regular field battles too. If I leave the camera too low (close to the action) during a siege, there is a 99% chance the sound will cut out. The sound completely cuts out; no battle sound effects, menu sound effects, music, or anything else plays during the battle. Adjusting sound settings does nothing. After leaving the battle, the background sound effects of the loading screen plays. However, upon returning to the campaign, the sound is completely gone again. A restart of the entire game is needed to fix the issue. This makes playing sieges almost impossible, or at least far less enjoyable; I can avoid the issue by not zooming to the battle itself and playing the entire thing from a bird's eye view.
  • Reproduction steps:
Begin a siege battle with a large number of troops. Place the troops near the gate, where they will be fired upon. Advance siege engines, etc. to the walls. Zoom the camera in to the troops in front of the walls and wait. This is where my sound cuts out. Occasionally, it may happen later in the battle, after the troops have entered the town and are in melee.
**********With regards to uploading replay and modified.log:********** Please note that at time of posting, attaching files is NOT working for me. I receive a "This file failed to upload" error. In any case, the modified.log is irrelevant as I am not using any mods, and mods are not really in existence yet for this game anyway. Furthermore, the battle replay file is irrelevant as well, as this is not a bug with the battles themselves but the game engine. Thank you.

Also, I can't post dxdiag right now due to the aforementioned inability to upload. But I have Realtek audio drivers, and they are the latest version (Win 7 64 bit)

    Hi @magnum482

Would it be possible for you to .zip these files and attempt to post them.

    Kind Regards,

I have this same issue. Mainly in sieges with full armies both sides, if I zoom in to the combat, the sound starts to 'flicker' and then cuts out entirely. Sound resumes once I finish battle and come back to campaign map.

I have a similar problem here. Sound Effects distortion problem, any ideas on how to fix?

Having bad sound effects distortion when there are alot of missiles being fired. Mostly arrows. Eventually causes the sound to go mute during the battle and on the campaign map afterwards. Can't get the sound back unless I restart the game. Is there any way to fix this problem or am I sol?

As it's a sound issue try updating your Realtek driver. It would probably be worth doing it anyway as your current sound driver is over six years old.

I tried updating to the latest driver but it occured even on that, and the newest drivers break Realtek Audio Manager for me, so I reverted back to my motherboard ones.

My sound card is Realtek ALC892.

Not sure what else there is to do, this is really stumping and frustrating because it happens on all sound qualities and settings. No problems in Attila or WH2.

I suppose you could try disabling the Realtek card and relying on the in-built Microsoft driver to see if that helps.

Just tried with the default Microsoft HD Audio driver and it still cuts out.

Try deleting or renaming your preferences.script and if that fails there are a number of audio settings that will be in the replacement script that you could edit - I can't think of those that might be most relevant off the top of my head.
