And by that I mean expanding the franchise to another era.
I for one would surely love to see a remake of Rome, after seeing what wonders they did with the successor of Shogun. Medieval 3 would also do, those two time frames are my all time favourite in history.
However, something fresh and juicy might do just as well. Problem is I can't think of anything else that would surpass those two entries I mentioned. Call it lack of imagination if you will, but that is how I feel at the moment.
Care to make me change my mind and feel otherwise? Please share your thoughts on the matter and try to provide arguments as to whether CA should go back to the classics or try sailing uncharted waters.

19th century. You've got the American Civil War, rise of the British Empire, various European Wars, the beginnings of Communist revolution, revolts against foreign powers in India & China, the scramble for Africa, Wars of Independence in South America...
There I just made up a new interesting untouched period, let's think of some other ideas.
12th Century Mongolia: Rise of the largest contiguous empire in history
5th Century China: Warring States period of near perpetual warfare lasting nearly 2 centuries, subsequent unification, and later expansion that rivals the Roman Empire. New military ideas come into play that replace the chariot such as use of massed infantry and crossbows.
4th Century India: Various kingdoms fighting for control. Alexander the Great appears. Maurya Empire subjugates the whole of India after defeating Macedonian political control in the Northwest
10th-6th Century: Dominance of the chariot, struggles between Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, rise of Persia, and emergence of Greece.
And there are plenty more ideas where that came from in the "Next Total War" thread.

The OP's topic is misleading as instead of prompting discussion on some genuinely new IP, all it is doing is starting (yet another) topic on what the next title in the franchise will be. We've got more than enough of these types of threads already. And most of the scenarios that get suggested are completely unsuitable on the grounds that they are too obscure and therefore lack mass appeal; or that they do not provide sufficient scope and replayability. Oh and btw, Medieval 2 already exists and was released in 2006!
CA have already revealed they are working on an Alien project for console. That's the only truly new IP they've announced in some years now.
New IP for TW would be something like adopting themes from Middle Earth (Silmarillion, Third Age, The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, etc), Warhammer 40K (Horus Heresy, 40K canon, 13th black crusade, Tyranid invasion, etc), Wheel of Time, etc..
But since CA has been sticking to historic tipping points as a settings for their games for over a decade now I doubt that there would be any official science fiction/fantasy based TW anytime soon.
Check out the self-proclaimed Best Guide for Rome 2!
I would argue that changing the scenario alone doesn't constitute new IP. New IP, to me, means something other than TW. A completely new concept, game engine and user interface.

Just saying

No but here's an interesting part. What kind of new IP could CA possibly go into that would incorporate the mass AI aspects of TW? They went from sports ports to history, and then they tried their hand at hack & slash consoles. Stormrise was a failure, but there's still plenty of new ground that can be looked at for console or PC that still fits the profile of CA.
I would like to see a Lord of the Realm/Total War style mash up.
If anyone remembers Braveheart the PC game, thats the kind of thing (only done far better)
More micro management of the economy , a more detailed map level for a smaller scale, more juggling of resources. In Braveheart you actually built the weapons and armour for your warriors and then equipped them with it - and you armourers got better the more weapons they did.
I appreciate it might not be everyones cup of tea, but I would love to see that combination of detailed management combined with the brilliant TW combat engine.
Another option would be a mash up of that awesome PC game Imperialism 2 with Total War - so starting in 1500, colonise the new world with your conquistadors (or similar). Trade in the new world commodities and then conquer the old world.
I would think I had died and gone to heaven if they could bring out things like that. I must confess that Shogun 2 has brought me pretty close to nirvana
The game engine would actually be perfect for the number of troops likely to
I hope one day they'll make R2:TW so these Rome diehard fans can finally give it a rest so that we can move on to something new like China: TW after.
Also, American Civil War wouldn't attract almost no one except Americans. I'm sorry but that is the naked truth. Nobody cares about that civil war. But this is still a better idea than some fantasy theme which has the shelves flooded with dozens of titles already. Whatever they do I will enjoy Shogun 2 for years to come, so no hurry.
