I think this game looks really nice and I would love to play a more strategic TW again after all this TW Arcadehammer. However since I doubt that there is any sort of multiplayer scene here it's probably not worth buying for me. Or am I wrong?

Nah, everyone is still playing ArcadeHammer. Outside of that, there are still some folks in Rome 2.

Attila and Thrones are pulling about even MP-wise, it seems.
