Loss of on screen control buttons

Can anyone help me to restore the in battle commands please such as advance, rotate, limber, fire at will and so on. They've disappeared. All I see is a red green progress bar and zip all else.

Just had the same problem with my savegame. Just lost the unit controls. Can't set formations or anything but group with hotkeys.
