I wish I had my books, but I just moved and they are still in my old apartment. I have a really interesting biography of a Spanish female mercenary, brigand, conquistador who was eventually declared legally a man by the pope. I wish I could remember her name. But anyway, these things happened in history.
Well if they are reviewing the patching policy then I can't disagree with them on that.
Yeah it depends whats causing people to leave negative reviews.
No patches is awful for the consumer. Making the consumer buy DLC to get the previous one patched to a functional standard is unacceptable.
People are just getting more and more annoyed with CA, and the quality of their game is no longer covering for the failings at this point.
CA doesn't make consumers pay for DLC to get patches. They release patches (which are free) with DLC.
What's causing people to post negative reviews is obvious; first they believed lies, then when the lies where shown to be lies they clung onto the "CA didn't respond to the horrible things people said in a thread nicely enough" line. We know exactly what has happened here, and frankly none of it is CA's fault.
I find the narrative that people are "getting more and more annoyed with CA" to be false. If anything what I've seen here over the last couple days is the community backing CA in this. The community is irked by this attack and wants to get back to its usual business of speculation, memes and complaining about the usual things.
I don't think anybody knows what "nazi" means anymore, it's tossed around everytime.
Wrong from a part of the Rome community complaining from something that wasn't true and wrong from the CA moderator who doesn't know how to do the job.
Well said.
The sad part about what he said is "the Rome community" as if they are people who we know nothing about and play a different genre. Its the same **** series, its total war. And the problem is there's a disconnect between harry potter fantasy lovers who refuse to play real total war gAmes and came for warhammer only, and history strict stiff nerds who can't tolerate warhammer. THATS where this animosity is coming from. Nobody can stand to GIVE TIME TO THE OTHER GROUP FOR CONTENT AND FUN. If people on here can't even go a few months without warhammer DLC, pick up a hobby or actually go play another total war game. Its just petty **** between the two groups. Thank god I'm a mature human being and can like 2 games at once.
Why the ****storm against TW: Warhammer for a Rome2-only controversy about female generals?
Why, just why?
It's just like if i ****storm Zack Snyder calling him "racist" due to 300 and then, because of this, i start the same ****storm against The Lord of the Rings........
I have question. Usually when recruiting general in Rome 2 you had 4 generals/admirals to choose from , that number in available pool used to decrease when having recruited more/ having them closer to the limit.
Do these female family members decrease number of male characters in the pool or are they separate option ?
1. Some of you keep ignoring that a big pusher behind this was the Daily Freaking Stormer. I won't call them nazi because I doubt their userbase is made up entirely of people who believe in the national socialist ideology of the Third Reich, but they are openly far-right. They are fascist-adjacent. Calling them that is not a kneejerk reaction, it's what they are. Their ranks include klansmen and neonazis, MRAs, 4chan keklords just looking to offend people, and many other not-nice groups. These aren't names I'm calling them. It's what they call themselves.
2. Some people keep acting like this is the first time we've ever interacted with these people and just lept to condemnation instead of having a dialogue. Wrong. I'm a gay jew, born in Texas. I have been dealing with and been targeted by these people my entire life, and especially have been encountering them online for the last 3-4 years as they have gotten increasingly louder and bolder. They are not interested in discourse. They are trolls and partisans. I and many others have engaged them in good faith many times and there is no discussion to be had- if you don't agree with them you're an sjw soyboy white knight beta cuck feminazi at best and at worst, words that'd get this thread deleted in a heartbeat. I don't know how many are edgelord mcedgertons trying to get a rise out of people vs how many are dedicated far righters vs how many are decent young guys taken in by all the propaganda campaigns (like the Rome 2 nontroversy), but in all cases there is no discourse. They are not inviting a debate, and when they do, you will inevitably run into a wall where everything you say is because you are a brainwashed sjw pushing an agenda and at that point you have no choice but to give up. I can cite academic articles at people who are arguing from youtube videos and blogs and they'll respond that university sociology departments have been infiltrated and this dude from youtube knows how it REALLY is.
3. I hate to use the "p" word, but, uh, check your privilege. I've been literally beaten up because of who I am. At what point do people like me, and Ella, and loads of others, get the right to STOP engaging with people who literally believe we are lesser than them? On the internet I can be pretty outspoken because I have the liberty of being anonymous. But on social media or in real life- defending myself and my beliefs can have real consequences because of these aggressive, bigoted people. I do not wish ill upon anyone, but people hurling abuse at me, people like me, and allies like Ella or anyone else, be they gay, straight, man, woman, whatever? Yeah, they don't deserve respectful discourse. If your worldview consists of screaming "SJW BETA FEMINAZI AGENDA" into the ether, what discourse can you even partake in? I've never seen or heard of the sjw feminist agenda but I imagine it's about as nonexistent as the gay agenda- and as you can see, that agenda wasn't so scary to Traditional Western Culture, was it? We're getting married all over the place nowadays and we still haven't kidnapped any kids and converted them sodomite liberal decadence. White guys are still fine. No one is being censored. And a private company, mind, is completely within their rights to dissociate their brand with certain discourse. Many, many companies like CA have. They don't want their forums turning into an MRA cesspool because it's bad for the brand. And that isn't censorship, it's capitalism.
Just a caution about using the P word if you don’t know the personal (and I mean that persons inner thoughts as well) history of the person you are replying too. It can be very offensive and a cheap shot. Of course in my day we had to walk barefoot on broken glass to get to school, kids these days just wouldn’t understand 😁

From what I've read I GUESS depending on the faction (non-Roman or Greek... or maybe some others) you have X% (celtic, germanic, egyptian: 15% Kush: 50%) chance of the general/admiral being female
The Empire still hasn't gotten their FLC LL. We need Marius Leitdorf of Averland!
Where is Boris Todbringer? Have you seen him? For a Middenland DLC with Boris and the Ar-Ulric!

Queek could smell their hatred, ratcheted to a degree that even he could not evoke in their simple hearts. He stepped over the old orange-fur’s body, eager to see for himself what it was they saw. But he heard it first. 'Waaaaaaaggh! Gorfang!'
Its a stupid controversy. CA added female generals to Rome 2 for the majority of factions. When people complained the CA rep gave the INCREDIBLY STUPID Battlefield V response which was, our game is historically authentic, not historically accurate, if you don't like it, don't play the game. That is when the review bombing started.

thing is, the "outrage" iirccame months after CA added said female generals. Then, after the answer, it again took weeks for it to blow over.

Are you assuming Grimgor gender??? *jokes
Also, you know that the screenshot is manufactured by the players decision and that the controversy basis is non existant?
Ella's response has given CA positive rep in my book.
I absolutely DO NOT want my games kowtowing to, or my forums overrun with, CHUDs screaming about SJWs.
If you want to see how flagrantly this has been pushed, have a look at the following article, titled "Total War: Rome II Getting Patched to Replace White Soldiers with Women And Darkies"
Many of you keep trying to convince yourselves that the outrage is manufactured and illegitimate. My very simple response to that is:
All the reviews are from owners of the game. People who have owned the game for 5 years. People who are still playing the game 5 years later. People who actually enjoy and care enough about a 5 year old game to actually take the time to make their voice heard about something that bothers them.
When you say this is manufactured by some website or article, you are essentially saying that all of these people are mindless robots who march to the command of something they have read. That the reality of the game they are playing and the company they are dealing with is A. "Everything is good" but that because of an article they believe B. "Everything is bad."
Do you not see how dismissive and derogatory that is?
There are 2 options being expressed here.
Option 1. All these people are automatons and trolls, and their point of view should be ignored.
Option 2. These are fellow gamers who had some kind of bad interaction or bad build up that pushed them over the edge.
This entire "Anti-SJW's don't deserve the time of day" attitude is just a way of closing your ears to other people and refusing to try and learn what might be the perceived problem from their point of view.
Pretending that CA did absolutely nothing wrong is only sweeping reality under the rug. Things won't get better that way.
Now this thread is about opression olympics by snowflakes for whom Twitter and Tumblr apparently wasn't enough.
Thanks for sharing the stories about random people on the Internet being mean to you on a Total War: Warhammer video game forum.
What is the point of this thread anyway? Complaining about complaining is unproductive and we can't do anything about the current review bombing. Do we really need to turn Warhammer discussion site into safe space room? It's not like we already don't have enough trolls pushing their own agenda about "entitlement" and game issues, the poitics is just what we needed on top of this.

Ok, find me a single link, anywhere on the internet where a self-styled "anti-sjw" responds with a legitimate point.

The controversy is manufactured. Most of the people are review bombing and maligning CA because they were told a politically motivated CA employee doesn’t want them to buy Total War games. This is a misrepresentation of the situation. The community rep told a very specific group of people who were behaving in an inappropriate and toxic manner that their options were to either to install mods to the game to remove the features that they didn’t like or to not buy the games. This was not a general message to everybody who was voicing concern. Furthermore, these grievances were predicated on a false claim that CA had increased the frequency which female generals spawned.
The story about this was spread by people who do have political agendas, and people were riled up under false pretexts because so many people are perfectly willing to let themselves get angry when they hear a story that reaffirms their own world view.
To reiterate, yes, it is a manufactured controversy.

Good points.
It needs to be pointed out that what people call "cheese" is just playing the game the way it actually exists not in some fictional way they think it is supposed to work.
Female generals are fully historical. But their ratio is not historical. Exactly like spartan hoplites, gladiator-soldiers, elephants and camel cataphracts. There is nothing new here, CA always did these things. The protest had nothing to do with historical accuracy to begin with, now that is spilled over to Warhammer it's clear it was in bad faith to begin with.
It depends of the faction. Female Roman generals? not even in a million years. Britannia female general? Sure at a very low %
Accepting that Boudicca was the exception rather than the rule, why is it so out of the question for the Romans?
If Livia Drusilla had wanted to lead an army, well, considering she got Augustus to exile friends, blood relatives, and people who opposed her had a talent for dropping dead at very convenient times, I reckon she'd have been leading one.
As far as I know, Zenobia was the closest thing the romans ever got to a female general, and she was a romanized syrian. OTOH, Boudicca wasn't an extremely rare exception. We read of Boudicca's rebellion in Tacitus, and
"Boudicca, in a [chariot], with her two daughters before her, drove through the ranks. She harangued the different nations in their turn: "This," she said, "is not the first time that the Britons have been led to battle by a woman. But now she did not come to boast the pride of a long line of ancestry, nor even to recover her kingdom and the plundered wealth of her family."
Firstly, I'll say it again: Total War games are historically authentic, not historically accurate - if having female units upsets you that much you can either mod them out or just not play. People saying they won't buy the game because there are too many women in it is fine with us - if that's their reason, we'd rather they didn't anyway.
Does this make it clear for those getting excited? She was talking about a few people in the thread who had consistently been rude and broken forum rules.
In reference to authenticity over accuracy, here is an article that will put a few people straight.
First, this is not a Warhammer game discussion by any stretch of the imagination, so it is going to be moved to Chat. Moderator thing that has to be done.
Second is that any serious serious student of history can find any number of points to support what ever position they want to take.
Third is that computer games, whatever genre they are, do not represent anything other than an opportunity to take some time away from the "real world issues" we encounter each day. They are not representative of anything other than that which the choices given you on which to play, nor should they be a basis on which one sets the individual goals in ones life.
Fourth, I personally have never asked anyone's permission to play a computer game in the some forty years I've been playing PC games, nor do I read a lot of recommendations and reviews anymore. I've found the games I personally enjoy are not always liked by someone else. No big deal, different tastes for different folks. Just the way it is.
Last (Moderator insert), it is taking a serious effort to keep some of these discussions open. I strongly suggest a few people insisting on providing their commentary at least do a "casual review" of the Forum Terms & Conditions.
Thanks.

How do you know she was talking about few people in the thread? CA_Ella has addressed question posted by a community member. It applies to everybody who is upset about the situation.
If having female units that much, the fact she used 'that much' means a person or a group who had been pushing the boundaries, it's pretty obvious.
If having female units that much, the fact she used 'that much' means a person or a group who had been pushing the boundaries, it's pretty obvious.
It is just a generic politically charged phrase relating to 'fragile masculinity' considering the context. Also passive aggressive bite. It is pretty obvious.
Further reinforced by later addition to the comment: People saying they won't buy the game because there are too many women in it is fine with us - if that's their reason, we'd rather they didn't anyway.
The context is an out of control thread, at no point is there any evidence that Ella said anything like that to someone talking to her in a reasonable way. Considering Ella's at the point of receiving threats I wonder why this is so important that people need to continue to fan the flames. It's a nothing issue and not worth all this tedium.
Note how many replies are the two diametrically opposed factions, mostly white knighters, as the other side seems to be a bit missing from the conversation, spewing hate at the other side while pretending they're cuddly and cute in comparison.
Zero good done here, not a single rational post taken to heart by the mob.
Most threads concerning similar matters run out of control. There was no dialogue with CA_Ella in the thread. CA_Ella came, locked the thread and left antagonising response. There is no excuse for such behaviour.
It's funny that the same people who take major offense at being told to use mods or play a game they enjoy more (the horror!) are the same people who like to tell others to "toughen up/deal with it/can't take a joke?" whenever someone takes offense with something they say.
Well if you're sensitive enough anything she said would've been antagonising, I don't think I could imagine getting that upset about it. I guess we are all different but to me Ella gave great advice.
Now, it's clear that people can get mad and share it with the rest of us how offended they are but this is not going to really affect CA in the way they deal with customers or on sales. I think it's pretty low that Ella is being threatened by overly sensitive man-child's:
