A serious problem about Historical mode

Tan_YuTan_Yu Registered Users Posts: 22
Now I know this is nothing new, but the problem itself just come to the surface as Ma Teng was announced as a playable faction. Will warlords behave differently in two modes?Spoiler alert (sort of)

See, most charaters behaves simillarly in the novel of ROTK and in the history, like Cao Cao and Liu Bei(with some minor differences yes, but the motivation and ideal are at least simillar), however, Ma Teng was a totally different issue.CA defines Ma Teng as a Loyalist of the Han Dynasty, while we all know that is only true in the Romance. In history, Ma Teng was a backstabbing warlord who actually kind of started the rebellion against the Han dynasty. Although he did combine force with Dong Zhuo at the period of time the game started, it was definetely not because of he was loyal to Han, but because he thought the alliance will be the best for him and his family. As that brilliant man mentioned on twitter, and I quote, "he was as loyal to the Han Dynasty as Anakin to the Jedi"(May not be accurate, but I'm sure this was what he mean).

And since the latest news has informed us that what to do with the young emperor of Han is going to be an important part of the campaign, the question arises. While the romace Ma Teng will restore the Han Dynasty as soon as he can, the historically accurate Ma Teng will build his own kingdom or empire the first chance he gets. Question is, will the Ma faction behave diffrently in the two modes the way as I mentioned above? Or will they take the same method anyway? Although since the player is most likely to be the one who capture the emperor this may be a pointless question, this still greatly bothers me.

My grammar is a bit rusty so sorry for the grammar mistakes, but I really want to know your point of view on this.

They have mentioned that events will be different in Classic Mode vs Romance mode. I assume things like this are one of those differences.

When they said Classic and Historical Mode... I think they meant that will be based on the battles... like in historical, Ma Chao won't be able to smash through 500 soldiers by himself, but in classic he will.

The game is likely going to be most based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms... so what is "historical" won't matter much when it comes to the Campaign story. I'm sure they'll use some historical elements within the game... but I think the majority of it will be from the RoTK.

Besides who can say what is purely true, especially with historical records... The winner writes the history... and Ma Teng was not one of the winners. For all we know, he could have been the greatest hero, or the most vicious tyrant.

Well they already said that events will be based on historical records rather than the Novel in Classic Mode, I'm not saying that for no reason we already know this is the case.

Ma Teng is a total background character in romance, he joined the coalition in romance too, yet he didn’t in the game.

So the game adaptation is neither here nor there. Also, what does been ‘loyal’ to the Han even mean in the game?
There is not a single piece of Media that sees Dong Zhuo/Cao Cao as the protector of the Emperor as they claim.

Well he DID started the first warlord rebellion against the Han Dynasty......not that I'm talking **** about him, but it is simply not fair to recognize his as a loyalist ......

Well CA have already said that Classic mode will use Records/historical events for its campaign story & dilemmas, while Romance mode will use the novel version of events for its story & dilemmas. They've already said that fictional characters and fictional events will be restricted to Romance mode, and will not feature in Classic Mode. So it definitely affects more than battles. But they've also said that the majority of pre-release material will come from Romance mode - it's being treated as the "normal game" while Classic mode is being treated as something like a "hardcore mode".

I think we should take these "warlords legends" blurbs as speaking to the Romance version of the game, especially after the Ma Teng one shows how great the difference can be (though the Liu Bei and Cao Cao ones were also quite romanticized).

The Classic versions of their campaigns *should be* a bit different in regards to portrayals, we just don't know how much yet. And probably won't until quite close to release.

So the game is fantasy? One hero smashing through 500 units? Lol now I can discard the thought of buying this one. Good to know!

I suggest waiting until more information about the game play the is available before getting hyper upset about the different styles of play. No one knows yet what we will see. No one knows yet what is actually coming.

I personally am not concerned. I intend to focus first on the classical before getting into the other part. Just a game. Enjoy, or not. Still looks pretty good to me.

I am confident that I classical mode the characters will die easily if they try to win battles through melee. They are generals, they need to survey the battlefield and not get caught up in melee where they won't have knowledge of the situation. Fantasy mode (A.K.A. "Romance mode") is something I never intend to see. Not interested in the least. I am confident "Classic mode" (A.K.A. "reality mode") won't have the nonsense Romance Mode will have.

No concern on my part in the least as concerns this.
