Reworking Alberic

People have been talking about the possibility of a new LL with the Bretonnia update and many seem to agree that it doesn't seem likely.

If that is the case, and since Bretonnia already has 3 start positions, I'd love to see some effort put into making Alberic more unique and interesting.

A good start could be giving him his trident but honestly what bugs me the most is his lack of unique voicelines. Please correct me if I am wrong but it feels like he is just reusing the generic Bretonnian lord lines, which is no way to treat a LL.

Something like that could make the inclusion of alberic over bohemond (or others) in the first place easier to swallow... Not that we have a choice...

It is indeed true that Alberic needs something to make him special. The Trident is the first step but other stuff is needed as well. I hope they do something with him.

he needs skills rework more than voiceliness. Spirit of the tempest and his trident skill are useless and need an overhaul.

Do you think it could be a good idea to move his start position to Araby?

    Or

Maybe since he fighting many sea factions now, maybe make him a sea horde.

    Just some ideas

    Yes on Trident.

Alberic, along with Lokhir and Wulfrik are the ones who should totally get their shipbuilding.

Why are people so adamant about Alberic having his trident? Just picture it in your mind: have you ever seen a knight with a trident? Don't you realize how out of place that would look? Him carrying an umbrella would not be any weirder...

Shipbuilding would be a nice touch, however. Just a little something to make him feel unique, but personally, I really like him already as he is now (he gotta have different skills though).

He is a disciple of Manaan and Trident is Manaan's chosen weapon. Makes sense and is something that made Alberic to stand out of other major Bretonnian characters.

I'm not sure about him getting shipbuilding. He is still a Bretonnian Lord with lands to deal with and having the same mechanics on him as on VP LLs would be odd to me. I think the same about Wulfrik actually, he has a special ship but it isn't like those ships. Lokhir on the other hand, well, that would make more sense.

I do want Alberic to have some kind of relationship with the Pirates. Certainly Saltspite and him could have some kind of rivalry.

I have to agree on making the Trident to help him stand out in appearance. As even Bohemond has a unique weapon that isn't a lance or sword with his "Beast Mace of Bastonne" so if CA want Alberic to be unique then he needs the Trident.
So...the Light's vaunted justice has finally arrived. Shall I lay down Frostmourne and throw myself at your mercy, Fordring?

    Yes on Trident.

Duke of Bordeleaux should be in Bordeleaux. And that's just removing a start position for another start position.

Also I think Araby crusader states are gonna be turn 1 punching bags for Arkhan and Araby LLs so no to them as playable.

I guess you could implement ship building but I don't think it's gonna happen.
Furthermore, I consider that Daemon Prince must be removed.

I don’t mind the idea of a trident. Also the idea of him having shipbuilding would definitely make him unique as a Bretonnian Lord. I’m perfectly okay with his look. He is a a Duke of Bretonnia after all. Bohemond wouldn’t be too much different except with a thicker cloak and a mace.

I personally would love CA to add Bohemond with his mace and Theoderic with his double handed Axe. Alberic, Theoderic and Bohemond would fit nicely as just a little more extravagant looking lords. Visually they can’t look too different from the rest. They are knights.

I just wish CA would keep the colours of the Caparison the same as the knight for Paladins and lords. Small detail but Drives me nuts.

Trident is okay to add methinks. Like a lance basically although a worse one with it’s the pressure impact points. But still. I’ve never noticed that he supposedly has non unique voice lines but if not then that is a bit sub par.

Otherwise I don’t think he needs much work. His inherent buffs to trade and Knights of the Realm are good enough as are his chooseable extra buffs for trade, ports, Paladins, Knights Errant and Foot Squires.

Where he is a bit lacking is in that extra line of skills he has. The focus on empire building feels a wee bit sub par. Having one of them focus further on battle prowess would be nice. But Alberic is hardly a bad Lord by any stretch of the imagination.

He has a unique voice, it's deeper and he speaks slower than the other Bretonnian lords. However his dialogue is word-for-word the same as theirs.

A big part of what makes Louen so attractive is his starting position by contrast. Although Alberic’s is no slouch of a position with the Manaan Drydocks and the Bordeleaux Wine Market but Louen has the Couronne Tournament Grounds and quick and easy access to Marienburg as well as the ability to end the Greenskin incursions before they even get going by taking out Grung Zint. Thus allowing him to take control over his campaign much earlier. And while Paladins are good a Damsel is better by allowing you access to magic from the get go.

Louen has other things going for him as well but take out the starting position as well as Alberic’s and he’s not that much better in my book.

The unique thing with Alberic is that he's the first one to have to deal with Mousillon. That's something that I've always loved about his campaign, you're locked in a stalemate as Mousillon is too heavily defended to take on right away and the undead early units are too weak to take you down. So the campaign devolves into an arm race to see who can take the other first.

Throw in some unknown factors like the High Elves and Kemmler, and you have a very interesting and unique campaign.

That's not the same thing. Those example of yours actually look great and are fitting in the lore. I've never heard of a knight going to battle wielding an oversized fork, however.

Trident is just a spear with three points, and spear is a pretty common pick among horse riders. Surely it can't be so absurd even in real world let alone Warhammer.

Rework its multiplayer ability is more important for me

Trident can be modded in and there ARE mods for it already.

Wrath of Manaan needs a melee recharge ability like sunfang
The Tempest or whatever needs to be map wide , but half or 3/4 the bonus

compare to picturing Alberic weird by adding trident

i honestly think Thorgrim the dwarf king should be able / or has an option to not always mount the "throne bearer"

honestly, the only reason why i didn't ever bother to use him
isn't he supposed to be badass fighter ?

the way he fight honestly look so weird, i mean maybe if he is a dwarf wizard or wielding magic axe that throw projectile it can still be tolerated or maybe the throne has some armor parchment that shielded the thronebearers so it can be imagined as battering ram or something

but alas. i doubt they would change it

Well this throne is basically the strongest relic the dwarfs have it basically makes him unkillable, he is an extremely skilled warrior with an OP axe, but his throne can fend off attacks from wyverns while he just sits read a grudge and causally lean over to cut the monsters throat

Guess what he means is, in the game, the attack animation of his axe doesn't seem to be connecting with what he's hitting tho, more like he's hitting the air because he sits too high and his weapon/arm seems to have too short of a reach.

i don't think mann worship has any synergy with rest of bretonia. and so alberic is kind of weird in the bretonian roster. and so the fundamental flow lies in lore. it would have been better if they choose a different lord other than alberic to begin with.
