First time modding

kvangkvang Registered Users Posts: 4
Trying to get into modding, just really failing at it though. want to try for my first time to make Zhang Fei and Guan Yu as Liu Bei's family, by modifying the start pos charac relationship as adopted by Liu Hong and the event as them being family, but whenever I export I get "The following tables are being exported but not to binary (working_data/db/...)"

Have no idea what this means, but if someone can help or lead me in the right direction, many thanks will be given

    1. run \Total War THREE KINGDOMS\assembly_kit\binaries\Tweak.retail.x64.exe

[Plugins] > [DAVE - DAtabase Visual Editor]

    2. modify the table that what you want

    [start_pos_family_relationships]

    [Add Record]

3k_main_template_historical_guan_yu_hero_wood:305387243 3k_main_template_ancestral_liu_hong:1738437367 child false false true

3k_main_template_historical_zhang_fei_hero_fire:2098682105 3k_main_template_ancestral_liu_hong:1738437367 child false false true

[Apply Changes] or [Apply and Close]

    3. run \Total War THREE KINGDOMS\assembly_kit\binaries\BoB.retail.x64.exe

check (3k_main_campaign_map), check (All), then click [Start].

waiting for BoB to generate the esf file.

    4. Use RPFM or PFM to make a new mod pack. And add the esf file.

    Pack File Manager download link:
    https://sourceforge.net/projects/packfilemanager/files/Release/

Rusted PackFile Manager (RPFM) download link:
    https://github.com/Frodo45127/rpfm/releases

    be care the directory structure

    like this:

    my_mod_name.pack
     - \campaigns\3k_main_campaign_map\startpos_historical.esf
     - \campaigns\3k_main_campaign_map\startpos_romance.esf

    5. Copy the mod pack file to your game data folder.

    like this:

    \Total War THREE KINGDOMS\data\my_mod_name.pack

    6. Launcher the game, and don't forget to enable the mod in Mod Manager.

Thanks so much for helping, but I'm following your instructions and it's still not working for me. Does the DAVE file have to be exported? Or do I have to put in the start_pos_ character_ relationships that the characters have startpos_event_positive_joined, or family_member, or something else?
I also accidentally clicked on liu bei's family table and switched his dad with someone else and it turned it back and the box turned yellow, but I removed the row and reentered it, but still no dice......

Sorry to keep bothering people but this is really frustrating for me.

In your case, you don't need export anything if you only modify the start_pos table.

BoB will generate an ESF file according to your changes.

You can try this steps to restore your assembly_kit:

Step1. use Windwos File Explorer to remove the assembly_kit folder (\Total War THREE KINGDOMS\assembly_kit\)

Step2. then remove [Total War: THREE KINGDOMS - Assembly Kit] in your Steam Tools list.

    Step3. re-download it again.

Then modify [start_pos_family_relationships] by the steps.

Use RPFM to make a Mod pack, then add the esf files. (be care the directory structure)

Put the mod pack to your game data folder. (\Total War THREE KINGDOMS\data\)

Launcher the game, and don't forget to enable the mod in Mod Manager.

By the way, have you use other mod?

Don't forget to disable other mod before you test your mod.

*** Game only can use one ESF and ccd file. (in your case, you don't need to care ccd file)
*** If other mod also has ESF file and load before your esf (MOD), then your esf (MOD) will not working.

    Hey @kvang

Maybe you have wrong step when add directory. B)

Add [campaigns] directory, not [3k_main_campaign_map] directory.

I have said the directory structure is:

    my_mod_name.pack
     - \campaigns\3k_main_campaign_map\startpos_historical.esf
     - \campaigns\3k_main_campaign_map\startpos_romance.esf

    correct directory structure

Thank you, thank you, thank you, it finally worked. I can't believe that one folder makes that much of a change.
