3k new mercenaries system seems very well suited for dogs of war

In the new Bandit overhaul, they now have a "Mercenary Contract" mechanic, if the AI accepts the offer or if the player accepts the AI's request, makes you temporary allies for 20 turns while giving you a targeted enemy faction, and gives you a "fame and fortune bar" that you can fill up by attacking your target. The more of the bar is filled, the higher your reward when the contract ends, but if it hits zero because you didn't actually do anything, it'll instantly break the contract and be considered an act of treachery on your part.

dow as a full fledged mercenary faction its what i really want to see, but i actually believe both wulfhart and nakai mechanics are what was left from a discarded dow dlc.

yep, it would work so well for DoW I would be surprised if they don't add something similar.

That sounds perfect for a Dogs of War DLC. It would be a real shame if they don’t make it in.

No way really? When did they implement that? That's almost exactly what I suggested they should do with DoW in my DoW Army List I made a while back ^_^

Something like that was my idea amore than a year before too:

That not even 3K has a mercenary system like Rome2 where you can hire other faction mercenaries in their homeregion seems to solidify that we will not see DoW only as a mrcenary system for the existing factions. Btw this woukd be horrible and watering down faction uniqueness and fill up faction weaknesses

    Yeah as own faction pls.

DoW has a pre 8th Ed armybook what makes in line with CD, therfore more right to implement than Kislev, norsca and VP. Would be a shame not seeing them in the future.

    I'm not all that impressed.

Sure, mercenary stuff gets added but just about everything has been proclaimed as a possible basis of a mercenary faction. This is the most direct but I think this isn't that indicative of anything.

that sounds like step in the right direction for a potnetial DoW mechanic.

I would like to see unlocking from certain units base on contracts/treaties.

With the new 3K DLC comes also a rework of the bandit factions.

Bandits are now able to offer their special service to other factions. If a contract is made you have a temporary alliance with that faction that lasts for 20 turns. You now have to fight for your new employer in exchange for a big sum of money at the end of the contract.

While having a mercenary contract with another faction, you have to fill up a new „fame and fortune“ meter. You can fill it up with fighting the enemies of your employer, eliminate special targets or gift conquered settlements.

When the contract ends you can achieve extra bonuses depending on how high your Fame and Fortune level is.
That level declines each turn and when it reaches 0, the contract is broken and you have to face massive diplomacy penalties.

I think this would also be perfect for DoW/SR.

So if you play Borgio and Miragliano for example, you could fight for other factions and help them to expand.

Such a playstyle would be really unique and quite interesting. DoW/SR shouldn’t be a map painting race anyways so this mechanic would be perfect.

This way you could also unlock cultural units like Amazons, Ogres, Arabians and Norse marauders. So you would have to fulfil a contract with a faction of a certain race to unlock special units.

What do you think about it guys?

I think it definitely make sense if they ever add Dogs of War to the game, which I think they eventually will - and I would love to see it. It would be a unique way to play the game.

That said, we - of course - need to be careful of our expectations on something like this. I already see people saying in other threads that having this in 3K means they are currently working on it for Warhammer - and that isn't something we can assume in any way.

Again, though - definitely an interesting idea that I think they could make work in a pretty awesome way in the Warhammer series.

Yeah, I imagined something like that.

That probably should be more of a territorial thing and it shouldn't be DoW-only feature. Chaos would benefit greatly from something like that.

How does this mechanic work for the AI? Do they use it as well? So will the faction still act like mercenaries if the player isn’t controlling them?

Ah right, I don’t follow 3K. One to keep an eye on though.

Someone who watched the launch stream said that the AI will not use it at all, only the player has it.

About unlocking units, the mercenary system is part of an update for the bandit factions. The bandits also get a covert network mechanic, where they can spread their hidden crime network across China. By doing so they can unlock new benefits, and even the unique units of other factions.

    @ArneSo

Apparently you can also gift captured territory to your benefactor faction while you're on the job for them so you don't have to deal with it yourself.

I know everyone is thinking "DoW" with this and you're right, alot of it does seem perfect for a DoW faction, but this mechanic in particular also seems perfect for Nakai as well as part of a replacement for the Defenders of the Great Plan: Allowing him to work for other LM factions and gift them territory that he captures.

Also, has anyone considered the other mechanics for Sun Ce and Lu Bu might be coming as well?

as Indypride said on his video: Lu Bu's thing he gets for killing other legendary characters makes a ton of sense for Queek

and the new Momentum mechanic where you gain all your movement range back in exchange for debuffs to your army sounds like a great thing for the Greenskins, being able to effectively trailblaze through army after town after army or make gorilla warfare type incursions into enemy territory and then retreating all the way back again.

Then there is Sun Ce's Luck mechanic where you have to keep your *cough* fightiness *cough cough* up or else Sun Ce dies.

CA are likely to reuse any and all mechanics from 3k and prior games in the Trilogy at some point in the future (atleast I hope so)

Three kingdoms is introducing a new mercenary system in which you fight for other factions and get paid by them for your services. Now, this was suggested as a campaign mechanic for DOW/TEB. now we know that it is possible. So do you want this mechanic now? Does this make Southern realms anymore possible? Give me opinions.
Here is the full description from the blog post:

Mercenary treaties are a new type of treaty available for Lü Bu and bandit factions only, that allows you to become mercenaries for other factions (excluding vassals).
As a mercenary, you can be hired by any faction you’re not at war with (excluding non-vassals.)
When playing as Lü Bu or another member of the bandit faction, the AI will ask you to help them in one of their wars in exchange for payment. You also have the option of offering your services to the AI
The mercenary treaty lasts 20 turns, and if the mercenary requests regular payments these regular payments last for 20 turns instead of the usual 10 turns
The mercenary will be granted shared vision with their employer, military access to their territory, and the ability to replenish on their lands for the duration of the agreement
Once the treaty has been accepted, the mercenary receives a mission to attack the targeted faction and a progress bar appears at the top of the screen. The progress bar shows the mercenary’s Fame and Fortune, and tracks how much fame and fortune the mercenary has earned
Fame and fortune is earned by fighting against the target or gifting their settlements to the mercenary employer
Earning a lot of fame and fortune makes it more likely that a dilemma that rewards the mercenary for their actions will be triggered. It also improves the reward options and gives a morale bonus to the mercenary’s army
Fame and fortune decays each turn as long as a contracted target is present, and should it ever reach 0 the agreement with the employer is automatically broken. An additional diplomatic penalty is also applied to the mercenary
If the mercenary lord makes peace with the mercenary target, the mercenary gets the option of respecting the peace or to keep fighting the war
A mercenary and their target may sign a peace treaty – this will break the contract and incur a diplomatic and respect penalty for the mercenary faction
While a contract is active, the mercenary can be asked by their target (or can offer themselves) to turn on their current employer. This will sign peace with the present target and then create a new mercenary contract between them and the mercenary against the former employer
Elimination of the target faction will stop the resource decay but any pre-agreed payment will continue to be paid out
To reiterate: only when playing as Lü Bu or a member of the bandit faction will you have access to the mercenary treaty mechanic. When playing as another faction, you cannot ask the AI to sign a mercenary treaty

I also made a thread about it last week, but it disappeared for some reason and never came back. It just got deleted...

But yes the mercenary contract mechanic from 3k would be perfect for DoW/SR.
