mechanic idea for all games - Battles should happen at the end of the turn instead of immediately.

I feel like armies should have to spend a turn in preparation for a field battle, as battle camps were a thing. this would allow for allied (or enemy) reinforcements to actually come and support you in a fight if they're nearby. It would also allow for an opportunistic 3rd enemy to attack two armies and cause a 3-way battle.

To clarify, how this would work is everyone would make their moves like normal on the campaign map, but instead of the battle immediately taking place, it would occur after all the pieces had moved. then the engagements would take place. I actually think this is how the game worked with Shogun 1 and Medieval 1 when you were using actual pieces on a board. I feel this version would allow for allies and reinforcements to be a lot more useful.

Obviously this needs to be adjusted for things like ambush battles and such - I really thing they need to remove attacking-ambush battles personally... I just want to have more battles with more factions involved in them than just two.

In some cases the ability to have multiple battles in a single turn can be cheese, but on the other hand if a player curb-stomp multiple small forces in a single turn it makes sense.

Well it's not so much to combat cheese as it is to make allied army reinforcements more common of an occurance. I could count on my finger the amount of times an allied army has actually be able to reinforce my own in an open field engagement. it pretty much never happens. If battles didn't trigger until everyone had made their moves on the board, it would allow for reinforcements to actually come into play, which is what I'm wanting. I want to see multiple banners of commanders on the field, like Liu Bei, Cao Cao and Yao Shuan's banners fighting Dong Zhao. or have the ability for 3-way fights to occur by having an army who's at war with both nations jump into the battle during their turn.

Yea reinforcements can be ignored too easily in newer total games, and it can be very cheese.

Jep this would make sense. Especially now the campaign ai seems more capable. This would however demand a full rework of some campaign mechanics. Don’t think ca would touch on that for this title. All in all it’s very quite with no updates since the latest beta patch more than a month ago.

oh yeah I'm not expecting it to be something to come into play with this title... but I was thinking more for future titles, and there's no subforum for "future game suggestions" so i just went with what their latest release is.

I'm not 100% sure on this idea being pulled off, but I must say some of my favorite moments in 3k have been where allied AI factions reinforce on the battle field.

    Having battle likes :
Liu Bei + Yuan Shu Vs Cao Cao + Yuan Shao

    etc is good fun.

If this idea creates more of those battles, im down for the change.
