Is it possible to have a mod which allows for unique mainstream (generic) units

As per title,

For example Ji Infantry, is a generic unit.

Would it be possible to have a mod which allows it to be unique (aesthetic) across factions.
Like Dong Zhou's Ji infantry would be rename to Xiliang Ji Infantry with unique skins than the other faction's Ji infantry ?

I am just curious if this is possible or it is limited by TW3K's engine ?


I am asking this because I just tried some aesthetic mods and i am quite impress with their work. I think if there's a mod could at least remake the generic units for major factions that would be a game changer.

AFAIK it's absolutely possible. You'd only be limited by the assets of the base game (unless you know how to make models yourself) and you would "only" have to make a definition + a proper unit for every variant you want and limit that variant to a faction group (in your exemple Dong Zhuo). Then obviously tie the units to the tech tree and all the other stuff.

Like, this didn't really change since Rome 2. (And if you want to create 8 different Ji Infantry with 8 different skins and the same stats, go for it)
