Was there any historical basis for each of the clan traits?

It just came to my mind out of pure curiosity of if there was any historical basis to the clan traits (like how the Chosukabe are good archers and Mori are good sailors). I know this is a game and all, so I would understand if there was no basis. If someone could write an explanation for each of the clans, I would appreciate it greatly, since I find this stuff pretty interesting!
