It's not for me but I think my nephew would love it. Nothing wrong with introducing Warhammer to a younger audience.

Didn't that genre die like a month after it got popular?

And this is relevant to Total War because?
Warhammer Fantasy is less grimdark than 40k.
    Ogre Kingdoms when CA?
Dogs of War need Ogres and halflings.

Welcome to mobile gaming gentlemen. I am not going to lie, the chances of your survival are small. Some may even turn against you aspetto pay to win corpses.

Nope, but it certainly was a lot more poplar than now, and it lasted for way more than 1 month.

Because we all knew that a License for AoS had been secured to make some sort of video game... a video game that clearly wont be a competitor to Total War Warhammer.

Besides a lot of us hate AoS... its nice to see it falling flat on its face... while "The World that Was" is the actual star of the show.

Wasn't it GW deal for the last couple of years that they would hand pieces (just stormcasts/40kOrks or a small selection) of their IP to create tons of video games, both mobile ganes and for steam & co, only to sit back and watch which games died quickly. The sucessful ones would then get additional parts of an IP, and often multiple studios used the very same IPs.
So I do not get why another mobile game is relevant. Multiple studios already make multiple AoS games, as well as 40k. There is no exclusive deal like disney and electronic arts have/had for star wars. If WFB would still be supported we would also see much more WFB video games beside Vermintide and TWWH

It's funny because AoS has and continues to be hugely successful. And a Mobile game is a fail? They're cash grabs. It's just GW making money.
    Hyped for TWW3.

CA! Cathay has the most potential of any race in TWW by far. More A+ material to design a race from than any other. You can make Cathay the best race in TWW history. I bolieve in you!

    So colourful...

She had fought beside Aenarion in the days of her youth, killing daemons, slaughtering the enemies of her people with wild abandon. She had cast spells and brewed poisons and worked out battle strategies for his armies. She had used her gift of visions to grant the elves victories innumerable.

The so-called high elves had forgotten that now, preferring to cast her as the villain in the simple-minded morality plays they so enjoyed since her son had sundered the realm. They had no idea what it had cost to win those battles back when all thought the world was ending, or the price she had paid for victory.

Phone games have the potential to be good... so far though history has proven that it's better to go with "guilty until proven innocent" in the mobile phone market for video games.
Just assume it's another kanker-sore on gaming and move on.

You know what would make me trust a game made on mobile?
    Two things:
    1. An up-front cost.
    2. No in-app purchases/micropayments.

"Free to play" is a business model that 99% of the time is far more expensive than a game with upfront costs.

"Falling flat on its face", really dude, AoS is more succesful than WHF ever was, they've released more armies and model in the last year than WHF got in entire editions. You can hate it all you like (for whatever dumb reason) but pretending it's somehow failing is just delusional at this point.

Didn't Andy Chambers make the step from GW to Blizzard? Yeah that must have been a huge loss for GW.

They're not enemies. They're frenemies. Neither seems to realise just how much they've benefited from the other or will ever publicly acknowledge it if they have. (See the messy history of for example: Genestealer -> Zerg -> Tyrranid or Eldar -> Protoss -> Tau (very messy and these 3 word summaries do not do it justice))

But Blizzard is dead anyway, just a skinsuit being worn by one of Activision's herniated tumors.

The actual Blizzard has split and joined or started other gaming companies.
    Dreamhaven, Bonfire, Frostgiant and more.

Yeah the relationship between GW and Blizzard is far more complicated then rivals or Blizzard being a GW copycat. Hard to summarize it, but I would say that they are (or were if we consider blizzards current state ), respected rivals who took concepts from each other and remolded them into new things, as they did with so many other preexisting scifi and fantasy IPs.

Space marines wearing power armor fighting space locust can e.g. be found in starship troopers as well. Star wars is another major inspiration for both blizzard and GW. Sure some direct influence between blizzard and GW may have existed. But it does not take a big brain to copy Starship troopers. And the resulting space marines and space locusts would look similar by default to each other.
Similarly to how contemporary killer robot stories are often compared to skynet or the terminator, even if these movies took SO MUCH stuff from previous works. From someone grown up in the 50 these stories are ripping off old scifi tropes and remolding them. From our modern perspective modern movies are ripping of terminator, as we are not familiar with these older sources.

And both companies took from so many other IPs both in fantasy and scifi. Or how GW ripped off quite a lot of historical, mythological or folktale sources.
These inspirations are neither good or bad, as it is important to orientate oneself on previous works. It is how you adapt and translate them into your work and develop and evolve them further. And Blizzard must've done something right, otherwise starcraft and warcraft would not have been so popular.
On the other side blizzard was also a huge driver for GW to make their IPs more unique. If warcraft and starcraft never existed, I can imagine, that WFB, AoS and 40k would be vastly different from what we have today.

Very lovely post going into significantly more detail on my point.
I would like to add something both of us missed which is that on numerous occasions actual staff of both companies have admitted to having friendly relations among the staff of the other and enjoying each other's franchises and products.

Outside of some legal issues that needed to be resolved the actual "rivalry" seems to have been entirely fabricated by the fanbases of both companies.

Bonus: Chris Metzen (Blizzard veteran designer and voice actor) recently responded via Twitter with interest to a senior position for the 40K brand.
