Hear me out - Thorek is great news for Lizardmen...

...and indeed for older races in general. But only once we get to Warhammer 3.

Honestly the biggest surprise for me in the current drop, for is that Thorek has a Vortex campaign. That he's an FLC lord for a Warhammer 1 race that is nevertheless in Warhammer 2's main campaign, and not linked to any paid content drop for the Dwarfs. I was honestly expecting an FLC lord for Dwarfs to be an ME-only campaign. Additionally (although less surprisingly), they got a second substantial rework.

This really opens possibilities up for older races in Warhammer 3. It means that they can get updates and lords without having an associated Lord Pack. This is good news for Lizardmen, who are now sitting on the joint most LPs of any race while still having somewhat laclustre campaign mechanics. It's also good news for Greenskins, who really don't have any obvious match-ups against core WH3 races; for Dark Elves who suffer from being behind HE in both units needed and their obvious opponent; for Vampire Counts who have just a silly amount of lords needed. I'm sure that there are other potential winners. Although I expect some of these to get a lord pack, I wasn't really banking on all of them getting one.

But equally, it doesn't preclude LPs coming - I think it's fairly clear that there's an obvious Engineer-shaped, LP-sized hole in the Dwarf roster, and they can have good match-ups against both Nurgle and Khorne.

So yeah, I would take this as good news for later possibilities.

Yeah but we weren't sure CA would give a race for free since Bretonnia was already a FLC race.

Also means CA can release Character packs for already completed races in game 3 with more named units if they feel like it.
We want all the factions Dogs of War, Araby, Ind, Kuresh, Nippon, Hobgoblin Khanate. Milk us CA.

I actually believe Rakarth may have been the FLC instead of Thorek, but CA saw the huge enthusiasm behind a WH:1 v WH:1 DLC and did it this way instead.
MarcusLivius: You are indeed a lord of entitlement.

    Oh that's a shout!

Although equally an FLC lord from a different WH2 race would also have been unprecedented - Rapanse was the first time the FLC lord wasn't for one of the two races in the LP.

I'm sorry but you are leaving out a pretty important fact about Thorek and that is that we are only getting him with the final DLC for WH2. That is when CA are not planing any further releases that they can profit from. Releasing Thorek now does not cost them any WH2 revenue and gets them a ton of goodwill among the playerbase. Simply put Thorek is part of their marketing.

Giving an older race a Thorek-style FLC in WH3 on the other hand will remove one of the major selling points for a cross-game DLC featuring that race. If CA had given us Kurt Helborg and the Empire for free in WH2 do you really think that Hunter and the Beast would have sold as well as it did? There is a reason why Repanse was the only FLC lord from a WH1 faction that was playable in both campaigns, CA can not monetize Bretonnia content without risking a backlash.
Drycha on the other hand was tied to owning older content and the Beastmen, Greenskins and Empire got no FLC LLs.
The user formerly known as KN_Gars, thanks for the involunatry rename CA.

    Right I realise this.

My point is that we don't need to be hoping for 12-15 LPs to get everyone updated and getting new Lords (which had no precedent at all until now).
