Guess this was very important\big event then.

This is the nature of sea power attack quickly, wipe out a town and then leave, then move further up the coast, all the while your enemy can’t hope to attack your coast.
issue is it only works as long as you are getting those undefended locations and in this set up they have no reason not to defend all the ports as the things that make it so the armies have to be elsewhere are removed
Armies are not infinite, you cannot have a full army larger than Black Arks at every coastal town, especially if WEs and specialists like Shadow Warriors can attack inland. Sea power holds a clear advantage that cannot be denied.
They don't have to be the empire coastlines isnt that large with only 2... think its tw princes having a coast. Meaning they can put there troops in the imporant ports. Now you have the rest of the empire princes to help defend brets who have a massive coastline. And the places between the major ports you just set up smaller fast moving forces that can skirmish with the raids at the less important villages and hamlets on the coastline
The Empire and Bretonnian coast line is huge. A blockade on the major cities will cut their income which will ask questions on the size of a garrison. There are numerous towns and cities that are open to assault, night attacks on major farmlands through Dragons, poisoning water supplies, all the advantages of sea power and being able to land specialist forces by choice. Something the humans cannot do. The DEs have successfully assaulted Bretonnian and Empire lands without the help of the HE and WE. The fact is the Elven force can directly attack the human homelands.. the humans cannot attack the Elves.

The coastline for the empire is not huge at all, again the whole military of the empire kislev bret and the southern realms are defending agsisnt thr seas. Dragons are extremely few in number and besides the cannon issue the humans arnt lacking air power of there own and once again every dragon lost is far worse for the elves. None of the things you have listen win wars by themselves and they will still take loses doing them loses they cant afford and eventually lose the war. Also blockades and removal of sea trade actually doesnt matter here because with everything not **** with them anymore over land would be incredibly safe and we know they already have routes from Cathay to the empire
That's 1600 miles of coastline miles of coastline at least and is there a reason you are missing out Bretonnia's a the SKs coastline?

Let me explain the effectiveness of a cannon at shooting down a Dragon flying at xmph at night.. 0. It cannot be overstated how untenable it would be for cannons to be massed added to farmland while leaving cities without. You can't do both. It would be almost impossible to shoot a Dragon during the day never mind the night.

Taking away sea trade would be disastrous for the Empire, I'm surprised you're even trying this argument. Very few carriages get to Cathay as it says in the lore. There is also the case of the amount of trade, consider the amount you get in a cart compared to a ship.

The human forces also don't get to not worry about their other landlocked enemies either, so don't think they'll be lined up on the coast.
very few make it to cathay because they are attacked not an issues in this, and thats why i said besides cannon but i see you deceided to hyper focuse on it. i said the bret coast is massive but the empire had 2 counts that can hold there coast and have what? 7 others ? that can help brets lets assume the 2 counts arnt enough then they still have 3-4 counts that can move to help the brets who have a better navy who have hosts of knights that really can only defend the coastline/ burn the wood elves out

"Who would come out on top assuming no other races interfere."
both the elves and humans get to go all in they both dont have to worry about enemies on there homefront
You can’t just make dangerous regions for trade less dangerous, that’s not on the table.

You didn’t really give a clear argument, Dragons will be able to attack unprotected or even protected farm land with little reply, there’s no getting out of that.

The Empire can certainly not defend its entire coast, that’s ridiculous.

The Bretonnian Navy doesn’t stand a chance against a combined elf navy.

Oh, so we don’t have to bother with natural enemies? So the Elves can send more ships in because maybe they don’t need to protect against barbarian invasions. Cool.

Do you know how big and how well defended The WEs are? You can’t simple ‘burn’ them out, that’s hilarious..

Outside influsince includes raids on trade

No they wont the Human forces have just as many air assets as the elves do

bret + southern realms +empire +pirate island + marienburg sounds like the elf fleet will be mauled just as badly

yes, we were already assuming that or else the elves would be even more ****.

once again see Durthu almost being killed by dwarfs because of him wanting to stop logging

the wood elfs are unable to get support, humans will use there trees to build more ships and they will die out.
Nope. Dangers that effect everyone do not merely disappear.

    Funny.

Nope. The combined Elven fleet is easily the most powerful, add to that the Elves would use their elite ships that don’t usually appear. You are seriously over egging the human fleet.

Did the Dwarfs successfully invade or destroy the WEs? Of course they didn’t.

I hope the last sentence is your idea of humour.
ok then the elves lose anyways lol because the dark elves lose from slave revolts at home because there armies are dying at sea

no they are not they are the strongest singular navy they are not going to beat the whole world agaisnt them

griffions > dragons, there are more of them, easier to train, more maneuverable and are pack hunters by nature

because it was logging expedition not an army but they still caused massive damage to the forest and caused tree dad to lose his mind.

no wood elves are just screwed more so then any other elf
A made up point pulled out of nowhere. I'm sure the DE are able to get that balance between attack and defense.

It's a good job they're not going up against the whole world then isn't it?

Are you aware the Elves have Griffins as well? And are you aware of the many other flying monsters they have?

I don't even know what to make of this.. and I assume the Dwarfs stopped? The answer is.. yes. A small logging operation to the total destruction of their huge forest are 2 different issues I'd say.
a small operation causing permutate damage to the wood elf now you have people actually interested in there destruction
not sure how thats hard to fallow lol

no if dark elf suffer any heavy loses at all they are ****, they need slaves to feed them what happens when enough of the dark elves die? well sense you said outside interference is still a thing the dark elves **** starve/have to put down slave revolts.

    all of the old world
    araby
    ind
    cathay
nippon (who drive off most dark elf raids)
yeah they are facing most of the world and are going to lose

they can bring there griffion crossed the sea if they want im sure it will be fine having to be strapped to the ship for months or phenix will be real happy to come to get shot by cannons and human still have as much air power

Again, no context, no info, a minor story that affected very little of the WE. A minor Dwarf trap nearly killed Queek.. so what? Does that say anything of attacking Clan Mors?

Yes, because the DE never suffer high losses without their slaves rioting. It happens sometimes but so what?

It's good to know that the idea of the 'Euro' humans alone can't beat the Elves, at least a little sense has been brought to the table.

A Griffin can fly from the lands of the Empire to the land of the Elves without issue? sigh...

Yes, the HE can easily transport their animals with them, as they often do.

One area eluded all attempts at conquest: the forested Wood Elf realm of Laurelorn to the northwest of the Empire. Claimed by the Elector Counts of Drakwald, Middenland, and Westerland, the Wood Elves acknowledged no Human overlord and defeated all attempts to conquer them by force. They won their most spectacular victory in 897 IC, when they overwhelmed the army of the Drakwalder Count, whom history remembers only as "the Unlucky". The defeat was so crushing that it set the stage for Drakwald's own later degeneracy and eventual disappearance as an Imperial Great Province. By the tenth century IC, the Empire had reached the pinnacle of its size and achievements. No power in the Old World could match it and there was talk amongst its rulers of one day governing the whole of the Old World. Blind with hubris, the people of the Empire could not see the growing cracks that would one day bring the whole Imperial structure crashing down around their heads.[1c]

    The Second Millennium: Imperial Collapse
The beginning of the second millennium IC heralded a decay in the once-grand fortunes of the Empire. It is now known in Imperial history as a time of hedonistic excess, poor leadership, and civil strife. The Drakwald Elector Counts had become the Emperors not long before, bribing their way into the office to use its power to preserve their provinces' failing position. The defeat at the hands of the Wood Elves and a series of disasters had weakened the province so much that there was fear that it would simply be absorbed by one of the others. The Drakwald Emperors moved the Imperial capital to the city of Carroburg and began a reign so corrupt that the term "Drakwalder" to this day is a byword for a greedy, grasping person in the Empire. Under the Drakwalders' dubious leadership the Empire would begin to rot away from within. For over a century, Emperor after Emperor continued the venal ways of the Drakwalder line, looking for any way to enrich themselves and caring more for their pleasures than the prosperity or well-being of the Empire they ruled. Fragmentary annals of this time give lurid hints of the debaucheries and **** held at the Imperial Court in carroburg--and of other, even more, obscene events.[1d]

She had fought beside Aenarion in the days of her youth, killing daemons, slaughtering the enemies of her people with wild abandon. She had cast spells and brewed poisons and worked out battle strategies for his armies. She had used her gift of visions to grant the elves victories innumerable.

The so-called high elves had forgotten that now, preferring to cast her as the villain in the simple-minded morality plays they so enjoyed since her son had sundered the realm. They had no idea what it had cost to win those battles back when all thought the world was ending, or the price she had paid for victory.

@HisShadowBG The WE are low in number and effectively isolationist hippies.

Unless they decided to unleash the forest there's very little they could actually do. It's the same exact problem as the other Elves. They can't replenish their losses anywhere near as fast as Humans.

In that case Elves should never go to war.. oh wait, that goes against the actual lore.

Probably best to keep to cheerleading.

Hello all, just want to add my thoughts here.

Individually, the elves are the better fighters, but humans outnumber them, and then can repopulate much faster.

Magic-wise, hands down the elves would wipe the floor with the humans.

But one thing I have not seen anywhere is the factor of gunpowder. Most of the human empires, especially The Empire, make heavy use of gunpowder firearms and artillery. These weapons would heavily balance the playing field whenever fighting any battle.

For the invasion of the wood elves, wait till winter, then use a scortched earth policy and burn them out. That way nobody would get affected by magic. Sure its a massive crime against nature, but in total war, these sorts of things happen.

The invasion of Ulthuan and Naggorond would be much tougher. It would most likely come down to a battle of attrition, which the humans would most likely win.

So do to the massive numbers and more advanced/modern weapons that the humans can bring to bear, I go with the humans.

We don't really have any numbers though do we? I've not seen a referenced number for the Elf population or the human population. Add to that you can't just build a skilled fleet immediately, it has to be built up over many years, so while the HE have the bigger, better and more skilled fleet, they would of course win the war of attrition at sea.

Welcome to the thread, apologies for the disrepair it's currently in. The mods will clean it up soon.

The thing is the Wood Elves actively don't want the forest to expand. They've put wards in place to stop it expanding. In theory they could remove those and let it expand, but that'd be taking a loss for themselves. They'd literally be losing.

The Humans don't necessarily need to invade Ulthuan or Naggaroth to win. Because the Elves are explicitly dying races. They cannot replenish losses. Humans meanwhile are constantly improving, growing in numbers, growing in technological ability, All the humans need to do is hold out till the Elves do not have the power to be a threat anymore. So victory conditions for the Elves are vastly harder than they are for the humans.

Gunpowder's a good point. Can't cast magic with lead in your head.

Well after a few more pages I just need to again add that elves win hands down.

Well after a few more pages I just need to again add that elves win hands down.

Or you could say, 'I know Elves have much better magic in all senses but humans can do things better, like channeling lots of magic through stone circles'

Or the humans could just 'burn down Athel Loren', taken from the majestic WH book "When the Humans burned down Athel Loren".

i to like to say things are the same as they once were 1400 years ago. The empire stopped trying to take the land of the wood elves because they became allies once again for every elf victory they have heaps of there own dead that they cant replace and will lose the war.

Honestly... pretty solid argument by this thread's standards.

I shall accept it. Even though you're still wrong on a factual, objective, definitely can't have a different opinion level.

Elves are a craven race weak of mind and spirit. As proven by the War of the Beard, they have no dignity or honour.
Did the elven race produce anyone to match the likes of Sigmar, Archaon or Nagash? It's obvious which race is superior when humans are both the main protagonists and the main antagonists of the setting.

The Elves get rolfstomped by humans, but I tend to disagree with this comment.
