The other interesting thing about the Ivory road is what the interactions will be if there is a non-aggression pact and even the possibility of military access. The regions which caravans pass thru could attack and steal from the caravan or is there a way to extort tithes and tolls which is how the Ogre Kingdoms are described in the lore?
Then if there is an incentive for some of the regions thru which caravans pass to attack the things which might pose a danger to the caravans to preserve the easy toll income.
I hope at least some of the events for the caravan battles are dynamic with the race of whichever controls the region the caravan is in when the event fires contributing an army of allies who are responding the to attack on the caravan and see it as an assault on their own income.
When the Silk Road wasn't protected by the Mongols it still ran but had to deal with various the various politics of the cities and tribes along the way, the cities usually depended upon the caravans being regular for a significant amount of income and not only provided safe havens but often contracted with nearby tribes to protect the caravans from other tribes who were cut out of the toll income and might attack even though they are nominally the 'same' faction.
I love all mechanics that give you reasons to wage war beyond the boring old expansion. Securing the Ivory road through partnerships and intervention wars sounds like a really cool possibility. We need more such things! (Like HE working more through proxies rather than taking the territories themselves for example.
i hope it's a generic mechanic for several factions. most order races, at les in the old world, could make use of it like bretonnia, kislev and the empire for example not to mention the chorfs if you really feel like it. (speaking of, what where does the ivory road go through the dark lands? does the chorfs just allow it?)

The Ivory road has several routes; and some do draw near Chaos Dwarf lands. However largely they don't really care about it. They don't care for most of the goods being carried - and in terms of slaves it's quite 'small fry'. Besides Chaos Dwarf armies aren't exactly the most 'mobile' entities.
More likely they just let the ogres and hob-goblins raid them; and just trade for what they want when they want it from them.
