Kairos Does Not Have A Mechanic

DeadpoolSW#7283DeadpoolSW#7283 Registered Users Posts: 3,167
I'm going to preface this by saying that Kairos looks cool, is probably better than all previous starting LLs, and I like the idea of the starting LLs being simpler than DLC/FLC. HOWEVER, he does not have a mechanic- not matter what CA says.

This is what an actual mechanic would look like:
  • Kairos gathers fragments on the campaign map (maybe by taking settlements like Thorek)
  • He can give these fragments to himself or to other Exalted Lords of Change
This might force you to play a different way (eg by prioritising certain settlements to occupy) and impacts multiple armies (not just Kairos).

This is Kairos' "mechanic":
  • Kairos puts a skill point into a fragment
  • Only Kairos gets it
How is this any different to Mannfred/Teclis getting different spell choices than other characters?

Again, I'm happy with Kairos- but what he has is not a mechanic.
Nagash will rule again!Justice for Araby, Albion, Amazons, Halflings, Nippon, Ind, Khuresh & the Hobgoblin Khanate!

    Well his mechanic is the reinforcement prediction;

Remember that these are just mechanics for 'Oracles of Tzeentch' not Tzeentch in general.

Yeah it's not much... but its more then Teclis got.

The difference is that he can customize his loadout, while Mannfred, Teclis, and other casters have a set number of spells they can choose from. Kairos has access to most lores of magic and some of their best spells, and he can choose which ones to use at will.

It's pretty strong, imo. Especially if you like using spells.

Core lords haven't had additional mechanics beyond their racial ones. It's true that Kairos doesn't technically have his own mechanics, but he's the only Tzeentch LL on release so it's one and the same until we get DLC.

Yes, I was hoping that CA would use Troy's approach to core LLs.

Exactly what i was saying. He's got very good faction buffs, but not an actual mechanic.

The magic shards thing is his mechanic, it's not super fancy but is more than what any of the WH2 starting LL have.

Lord Effect: +8 Leadership aka Karl Franz says hello....

While still short of what WH2 DLC lords ended up getting Kairos looks decent enough for a launch LL and he still has those bonkers race mechanics.
The user formerly known as KN_Gars, thanks for the involunatry rename CA.

He as a lord got cool mechanics, his faction has pretty much exactly what the tww2 standard is. It is still a improvement, but when a new LL shows up he can just be confederated and you will get all the goodies.

That being said I like the idea of the starting LLs being kind of vanilla, grimgor is still my favorite greenskin campaign, same for karl franz and the empire.

I think ca wanted to give them more as usual but not wanna scare people off who want still more vanilla experience.

What make sense because the stars are the new faction.

This seems like a pointless technicism to me. Kairos has a mechanic that lets him change his spells, exclusive to him. We already have mechanics that only affect the LL's army so I don't see much difference in a mechanic that only affects the LL himself. It's nothing impressive, that I would agree with.

Looking at the spells it's unclear if I'll even want to swap them out for spells of Tzeentch. Stuff like Tzeentch's Firestorm sound much more powerful than the low-level spells from other lores. Give me a reason to want those spells over Tzeentch.

A lot of the Warhammer 2 DLC content was way too overpowered and stupid.

    This seems good to me.

The issue is that they even say at the beginning of the article that they wanted to bridge the gap between starting lords and DLC ones, and this doesn't do that in my opinion, it's cool by itself but it's nothing much more than what we already get for base traits, certainly not compared to say Imrik or Rakarth. If they hadn't mentioned about the lord "mechanics" in every blog so far I wouldn't have even minded but this is just disappointing

That's not a mechanic that's just faction and lord effects.

Yeah, thats the thing that gets me.

Death, Life, Light and Shadows seem the only decent options, but you give up a lot to get them.

Which is literally a mechanic. That it isn't fancy like the racial ones, is completely irrelevant.

I expect Kairos will still be able to switch his spells if you confederate him as (eg) Vilitch, which means it isn't a faction mechanic- it's just a more unique skill tree.

Reinforcement time delay is interesting to me - i wonder if there will be an expanded reinforcement range with increased time to reinforce the further way the unit is.

Could be plausible to run a half size support army of entirely fliers. Run more horros and knights in kairos to bog down more units then a few minutes into the fight with the -50% reinforcement time bring in your doom knights, screamers and burning chariot support army with their fast movement speed to join the fight quickly and pick apart the weak points.

It is the "Lord effect" so yes, he will.

I think his mechanic is great. Simple but not too overpowered.

It's his mechanic as a lord. Which means if you play as another Tzeenchian faction, as soon as you confederate Kairos, you have access to it.

    It's not a faction mechanic.
