Bug Black Screen on Entering Battle

Whenever a battle finishes loading, instead of the battle there is just a black screen and the game cursor. Music is playing, but lags every once in a while.

Clicking near where the unit cards should be I am not getting any audio feedback from that.

Tabbing out and checking taskmanager, I was astonished to see that WH3 was using nearly 11 gb of RAM, which was all that the system had available at the moment.

Systems specs:

Microsoft Windows 10 Home 10.0.19042 Build 19042
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz, 2592 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical
Memory: 16 GB
Video card: Nvidia GTX 960M

I also have this same problem. The game is literally unplayable because I cannot load battles

It's really strange because I can play all that I want providing I only autoresolve. Any battle attempted creates the black screen

Also have this problem, any time I try to play a battle I only get a black screen with sound. Tried in campaign and custom battle and same issue.

Thank god im not the only one with this issue... although mines slightly different since i seem to eventually get into the battle.

Initiate a battle and it goes to teh zoomed in pre battle options screen, ie resolve, battle, retreat etc... click on Battle, screen goes black but you can still hear the campaign map music and map sound effects going on... after a while (30-60 seconds) it finally gets to the battle loading screen loads and is fine.

BUT, every battle i play after that the length of time its stuck on 'black screen' part of the issue gets longer and longer until about around the 5th or so battle it never makes it to the loading screen (well ive not bothered to wait longer than 10 minutes but after 10 minutes of black screen im fairly sure it aint gonna load).

At which point if i ctrl+alt+del to the task manager it indicates the program is not responding (even though it still allows my mouse to move around while ingame and te sound is still running if regularly hitching and stuttering) and my ram usage is sitting at 97-98%...

Id also add that watching the games ram usage at this point in task manager, it goes up a few megs every second for about 10ish seconds, then drops a meg or so then does another few megs every second for 10ish seconds... so despite being 'not responding' its just sitting there rapidly filling up my ram while doing nothing.

Havent tried a custom battle yet... think ill see if it happens there. Outside of the performance issues most are having the games fine for me despite all that, but this 'black screen' bug is pretty much making it unplayable for me.

I am having the same issue. it keeps popping me in and out of the game turning off both of my monitors and going black before just crashing the game. im able to hear sound the whole time.

Tested Custom battles and they work fine for me with no 'Black Screen'.

A similar problem - it enters the campaign and you can play auto-battle and everything is fine. But in the battle there is a black screen and I can’t do anything about it.

My friend also has this issue when playing solo or with others. When we were playing multiplayer campaign together and I was joining his battle as spectator the waiting for other player to load never finished, the countdown just kept counting down but he had to cntrl alt delete out. He always has black screen and music but that is it.

You may want to put this as known issue, I assume a lol of others have this problem but cant find where to post.

Also having the same issue. I started with the prologue and when I get to the first battle at Beacon, the pre battle screen comes up, I hit battle, it does a loading screen with audio for the campaign but when it finishes on that screen it goes black with game cursor and music. Task manager shows 11 gigs of RAM being used. Thank you for all the amazing work you do.

Thanks for taking time to look at this issue CA_Charlie and team. I also have this issue and I was starting to think I was the only one with it since it isn't listed as one of the major launch problems people have. I've done everything from update my drivers, playing in window mode, and even turning graphics to bare minimum. Nothing seems to work. I know this was an issue in TWW2 for some people, but I never experienced it there. Hopefully, it's an easy solution because I'm dying to play the campaign.

I have a similar problem but instead a black screen I still see the loading page. I hear th battle music, the speech in events battle but I can not play.

I have the same issue too, can enter into the game, but when i started a campagne, only hear music.

I'm having the same issue. If I choose to fight a battle manually the battle loads but then the screen stays black with a music in the background.

Same issue with fighting battle manually. At end of load screen when would normally go into battle screen goes black with music in background.

Hi, tried every thing I have found on the internet to fix but to no avail. There have been over 20 posts since your first response, so just wondering if this is now known and if there is any information on this?

I also tried everything, even a preferences script that sega support sent me by email. Nothing worked. I really hope a patch fixes this.

I got every warhammer dlc during these years, not being able to play even one manual battle in WH3 is disgusting.

Ok, I installed Microsoft DirectX and it looks like it solved at least the manual battle black screen.

I also have this exact same issue occurring with my game since installation yesterday. Playing Kislev campaign, in campaign mode it runs perfectly, no issues. I am able to auto resolve battles. But when going into battle, it starts loading, then crashes the game and freezes on a black screen, game music still in background but nothing happens. No error message or anything. I have revalidated files, I have the required hardware and I have run the steps outlined in the "known issues" guide.

I have enclosed the Dxdiag and save game files.

It seems some people are talking about Windows DirectX? What is that, exactly? (Sorry, I'm kinda clueless about these things.)

Update: I read some stuff CA put out, and changed my launch settings, so I run on DX11, not DX12. It makes it so that the battle screen bug never appears...it now it get permanently stuck on 90 percent load! So, not a fix.
