My friend got me a solution, and it worked. I did as follows:
Could you be more specific on how to do it please?
Click on the windows start menu, in search programs and files type regedit and open it. Go opening the folders according to the path that it gives you, when you get to GraphicsDrivers, right click, new, value of dword. You name it TdrLevel and that's it. Make sure that the value that comes out is 0. If a 1 comes out, right-click the file you just created, modify and reset it to zero.
Restart the computer and try to play. It solved the black screen for me

Have had this issue happen as well, even playing on the lowest graphic settings and lowest unit size. Not only does this happen in battles but I found it happened when I entered the Realm of chaos where the screen went black, and I only heard sounds. According to the game on enhanced graphics I have an Intel(R) HD Graphics 5500 card with 1024MB of video memory on Windows 10. My computer/laptop can't upgrade to Windows 11 and when I leave campaign, I get a message saying that my graphics card memory is running low. The only time this happened in Warhammer 2 is because I would run the GCCM mods for more maps and I could run large unit sizes on medium graphics for vanilla and would still be fine. Sucks to since I was really looking forward to this game.
my friend is having the same problem. black screen as soon as he loads a he can here stuff but can't do anything and the game crash's about 10 sec's after it started happening. he can play everything else fine just can't do any battle's that's 50% of the game. i don't know if this helps but he was on the xbox app maybe it's something to do with that as the xbox app isn't very good?
Whenever a battle finishes loading, instead of the battle there is just a black screen and the game cursor. Music is playing, but lags every once in a while.
Clicking near where the unit cards should be I am not getting any audio feedback from that.
Tabbing out and checking taskmanager, I was astonished to see that WH3 was using nearly 11 gb of RAM, which was all that the system had available at the moment.
Systems specs:
Microsoft Windows 10 Home 10.0.19042 Build 19042 Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz, 2592 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Memory: 16 GB Video card: Nvidia GTX 960M
I have the same issue but when the battle is going to be with more than 40 units.
Please find dxdiag attached. For the record disabling my ESET antivirus gave me an screeen shot from one of the pregame cinematics as opposed to a pure blank screen.
The method above helped me - however, now when switching to battles \ network battles in the squad selection menu, it freezes and crashes to the desktop, but in the campaign and special battles work correctly.
Its been a month and this is still an issue and no word from anyone. Just checking if anyone has any updates on this? Will we see a possible fix in the upcoming 1.1?
Still not working with the update 1.1.0 instead of black screen I get 95% loading in and it stays there. I've tried 3 times takes 20 to 30 minutes then just crashes.
The error of the black screen - with the loading bit at 90% and worries me, when resetting the graphical registry settings as described by the user above. At the same time, with the registry settings, the battles take a long time to load - compared to part 2, despite my SSD.
