I am getting a consistent PC crash while playing Warhammer 3 (and previously, 2).
I am running an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, NVIDIA RTX 3070 and 32GB RAM. I am playing on Ultra settings. NVIDIA drivers up to date.
The most common occurrence of the crash (99%), is entering and exiting a battle. The campaign map is fine, however if I select "Fight Battle" or "End Battle" at the conclusion, the game commonly shuts down the PC completely. No BSOD, error screen, hang or freeze. Simply like the PC was turned off at the wall.
I have struggled to see how this is a "dying PSU" issue, as I have been told by friends. Why is it this particular sequence (selecting Fight Battle or End Battle), that is causing it? Is it a power/CPU/GPU spike which crashes the PC?
If anyone has this particular issue or thoughts on what exactly is happening I would love to hear it. Is it a warranty issue with a hardware part, or a software issue or other problem? I am wondering whether to return it (a pre-built PC by Mwave in Australia), or take to a PC repairer to diagnose it.
• Detailed description of what happened before the crash - as per post above, consistent full computer shutdown, most commonly (99%) when entering and exiting a battle. Event Viewer is recording it as a Kernel-Power 41 crash.
• The relevant mini dump file - attached.
• A copy of your Campaign .save game, if the crash occurs during a Campaign - attached.
• A copy of your DxDiag - attached.
• A copy of your preferences script - attached.
• A copy of your modified.log file (.txt) - I think I've attached the correct one (I've uploaded two .txt files).
Just started running into this myself. I managed to get a reproducible scenario. When I was at 4k fullscreen, having my lord initiate the Quest Battle preview on the Campaign map, it would consistently restart my PC. I bumped my resolution down to 1440p and windowed and the issue no longer occurred under the same scenario. Who knows, it could be a Power Supply issue but that never happened in the last month of playing Elden Ring so it's weird that the issue is reproducible.
did we ever get any more info on this? getting the same issues, windows event 41, etc -- no problem in any other game, including cyberpunk2077, xcom2, various others so dont think its my hardware dying. Just full restarts at various points while playing warhammer 3.
Tried dropping down to 1440 and no such luck, on a rtx3060 and can provide more detailed infor if needed -- thanks for any help.
I have the same situation. Also 3070 and AMD Ryzen 7 5800X. 700 watt power supply. The game crashes every time I press the end turn button. On any graphics settings, and for any faction. If the move is not completed, then the mogu is on the company map for a very long time. There are no such problems in battles.

TWW3 crash during almost all battles
my graphic card is Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 , driver v.516.59 game ready
For me a fix described here helped (for now). Apparently, the game can't properly utilize new Intel processors (which I own). No crashes for two days already.
Additionally I've turned off the "unlimited video memory" option in the settings. It might cause instability, and with GTX 3080 it's not necessary at all anyway. Game works on max settings at stable 60 FPS. I've also set a hard cap on FPS to 60 in nVidia settings panel, to save on power load of the entire system, and I play in borderless window mode.
I am running an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X, NVIDIA RTX 3080 and 32GB RAM also. I am playing on Ultra settings, nvidia drivers are all up-to-date.
I have this problem usually during multiplayer games after a battle - the PC will turn off and critical event kernel-power 41 is in my event viewer every single time. This is the only game I get this issue. PC temps are fine in my case.
After turning the resolution from 4k to 1080p, problem half solved. Like if I play at 4k, then game crash on the 120 turn. If I play at 1080p, it crash on160 turn. It will eventually crash, but usually I won't play in such late games.
Also, when some ai try to do some diplomat with me, such as sign a trade, it crashes as well.
I still get this problem, even after changing PSU to a 1000W high end solution.
Running a 3080ti with an Intel 11900K CPU and 64 gigs of ram.
Still the game randomly crashes throwing my pc on a black screen and then reboot. I' m not experiencing this on any other game, and I'm playing everything on the highest settings available in 3440x1440 ultrawide: TWW3 is the only game that has this problem.
Is this crash at least a known issue with someone looking at it?
Wh3 is a taxing game on both CPU, GPU and Memory. Crashes like the ones described in this thread are more likely related to stability in those three areas. It can be that the custom or even official overclocking profiles are not stable or it can also be a lack of power from the PSU in power spike situations. Try running game for long periods using lowest settings or try loosening the overclocking profiles you might have on your system.
Another issues I had way back that was causing these types of crashes was that I was using one PCIE power cable in both the GPU power socket as the cable was splitting into 2x8pin PCIE connectors. I randomly dedicated a separate PCIE psu cable for each of the two power input on the GPU and the issues was instantly solved. I would advise anyone that might have this setup to change it asap.
ryzen 7 5800x 3080rtx 16 gb ram seasonic 1000w. All settings on max with 1440p resolution. 0 crashes freezes and while alt tab over 300 turn on 2.1.1 version. Strange things with this game i see.
I got a 1000W high end PSU too, not a problem on any other game. Definitely it's not a power supply problem, it seems more like a software one - reasons still unknown
I got win11 too, made a clean reinstall of everything, drivers are updated and system is brand new;
I don't know what causes the crashes but consider that you are mounting a Ryzen while I mount an Intel - differences on how the software handles various components can occur.
I only have discord running in background most of the time (plus things like Ghub and iCue) so no "big" programs in the background. At this time I even tried changing the PSU to the 1000W new one I got now but I didn't solve.
I even tried the two power PCIE cable trick to the GPU, still got the same crashes as before... atm I'm testing different graphics settings just to be sure but consider that I can run the game no problem in ultra with no lag, freezes or anything whatsoever, and honestly my specs can handle whatever this game can throw at them
I'll try capping fps and messing with options, still It's strange since i don't have any issues with any other game (rdr2, tww2, cp2077, star citizen, dcs to name a demanding few) dcs alone makes my system almost melt
At this point I'm just making attempts and hope for the best
Btw I'm not the only one having these kind of issues, that's why I'm pretty positive that it's not my system's fault
After patch 2.2, the crash reboot problem is gone.
It was, as I suspected, a software issue, due to a bug related to the assignment of rebel factions during the end turn cycle. For some reason, on my CPU architecture this caused a full reboot of my system.
Now the issue is completely gone and TWW3 runs stable and smooth at max graphics settings on 3440x1440.
For me it still happens as of 2.3. Just upgraded my PC (I7 12700KF, RTX 3060, 16GB DDR4, Windows 10). Before the upgrade the game worked flawlessly for 500h+ of gameplay.
Have been talking with Sega support but so far the only thing that worked was lowering all graphical settings to the minimal available (and this might not be fixing but extending the working period to a point I didn't reach the limit because playing in these settings is a chore).
Comments
Let me know if this is the case, i was able to fix the crashes and i'm currently on a quest to help anyone else struggling with them.
