I installed like a month ago a very cool LOTR mod making the Medieval 2 engine more powerful. Well, that's what I think. The problem that I have been experiencing is that there is no sound and music in the normal Medieval 2 game. Not in the mods. Ah also, I have the same effect of the Third Age mod when I click something in the menus in the normal Medieval 2. I think I corrupted the /sound/ files.
If someone here can help me sending me a the folder itself or the files of the folder, it would be very grateful.
I pressed Alt+S and nothing happened. No music. The other problem that I have is that I have the effect of Third Age Total War when you click on menus and stuff. Not of normal Medieval 2.
Looks like something went wrong when installing the mod, not sure if removing the mod will solve the issue as the default game plays those mod specific sounds.
Do the following, I am assuming you have the Steam version of the game:
1. go to the medieval ii total war\data directory and check if there are any individual files in it - delete those 2. check in the medieval ii total war\mods directory if the are any other directories other then americas, teutonic, crusades or brittania. If yes, delete the other directory 3. delete the following files in the medieval ii total war\data\sounds directory: events.idx and events.dat 4. run the file verification: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335
You should now have the original sound back
Edit: to find the medieval ii total war directory simply right click the game in Steam's library, choose 'properties' and then select 'local files' and 'browse'

So you mean that I have to delete all the mods that I have?
I assumed you only had that one mod, in this case please skip step 2 and then check if the default game and other mods have the correct sound after completing the other steps. If the issue is solved there but persists in a mod then you will need to re-install the mod.
English guide: Here the essence of the above guide for mute factions of other local languages that have mute factions (Spanish, French etc): I recommend to install my sound devkit and then edit the descr_sounds_accents.txt file in there (use Notepad) by moving mute factions from their accent slots to slots that work in their language. To get to that directory simply right click it's desktop short (not the log one) and choose 'open file location'. After that simply start the mod with it's short cut and test. If it works then simply copy the data\sounds\events.idx and .dat file to your main game's data\sounds directory. I suggest to make back up of the original files before copying.
Comments
The shortcut for switching sound on\off is Alt+S once you are in the game (campaign or battle)
