make shields into simple tiers, 25% bronze, 50% silver, 75% gold and 100% diamond. shield effects such as items or shieldbreaker are also in steps of 25%

buff most bronze shields into 50% silver. meanwhile light blockers such as sword masters and slayers stay at 25% bronze. some elite units such as iron breakers and chosen moved up to 75% gold.

it would make shielded units more valuable in comparison to ap variants and a better counter against missiles.

    While I'll take anything to drag ranged down a notch in campaign, it should be done by toning ranges units down. The problem isn't the shielded units being ineffective, but that ranged is way too overpowered in campaign.

    Do something like...no ammo replenishment unless you start your turn in your own territory or your own corruption. And it should incur a price to restore ammunition every turn.


    That way ranged units take more maintenance to field than melee, but benefits from always being healthier.



    Your suggestion to buff shield will make the already toxic and one-sided WE vs Dwarf match-up even worse

    I like this but diamond should not be 100% should always be able to do negligible damage. Otherwise some units lose all utility if its a bad match up. Bronz 25% silver 40% gold 60% Dimond 80% looks better to me. At the same time you would give guns some Sheildbreaker say artillery at 4 so 80% jizels # so 55% rifles at 2 so 35% and pistols at 1 so 20% percent. once again so that shields still give some buff albeit minor against most things outside of artillery as there is no chance a shield is stopping a cannon.
    Otherwise I like this idea.

    Gotta love how Goblins have Silver Shield and Ironbreakers have Bronze. I've only ever seen Gold Shield once or twice and that was through buffs, it exists! but it's not a normal feature on units outside of Silver Shields.

    Seriously. Why don't we have more Gold Shields? I'd gladly take Gold Shield on iron breakers, especially for MP, since they're such a niche rare and expensive unit designed for holding. And then the type of shield Bronze/Silver/Gold only blocks missiles and has nothing to do with Melee Potency. Perhaps reduce their melee attack slightly to offset the Gold Shield buff. Or simple make it so Magic Arrows bypass Shield Protection (Which would make sense) As Shields would block against physical arrows not magical/fire etc or adjust the shields across all units? and stats. I think melee units like iron breakers should have gold shields. But again adjust stats on the 3 tiers to balance it.

    And i understand having high armor + Gold Shield would make them strong against arrows or ranged, yes, fair point. But you balance this by giving then the unit either lower attack or melee defense. Or maybe give all archer units 2 extra ammo.

    I remember seeing a lot of dwarf units with silver shields in WH1 Beta Days. Shame it went away. But now that Spell/Magic resistance works differently Maybe units that focus on range such as Wood Elves wouldn't be punished as much if they did a new change to shields. Since Dawi act as a hard counter to Wood Elfs and other range factions simply due to the combo of High armor and Shields.

    would even loe to see a movement command for shielded units that will move with shield up formation.
    reducing their speed with like 40-50% but increase missle block chance for like 30%.
    shame we don't see things like this, cause it gives a layer of strategy
