Why did CA push this Tzeentch - Cathay narrative when most of the Cathayan territory is unsuitable?

Processing#6286Processing#6286 Registered Users Posts: 1,100
This is really a strange decision. In both RoC and most likely IE Tzeentch starts near Cathay, advisor tells you to invade Cathay and yet, most territories in Cathay is desert (red) or savannah (orange)...

Tzeentch has already bad replenishment and he gets even less than the base one on top of that, plus more PO problems, higher construction cost, less income and of course he can't even man the bastion...

This is once again Grom the Paunch situation, but at least Ulthuan was suitable for Grom, so you could just leave Bretonnia/Nehekara and rush Donut...

This seems like an oversight honestly. Kairos should get “tempered”, “desert” and “savanna” as suitable climates.

Honestly, I would remove tempered since Nkari and I think Skarbrand already have it.

Leave him with Chaotic and give him desert and savanah.

Because Warhammer 3 doesn't want you to expand anyway, it wants you to play its silly minigames.

True. Not just for his Cathay rivalry, but also for other thematic clashes.
E.g Tzeentch is the chaos god most involved in messing the great plan up. And Lizardmen are in desert, savannah and jungle.

Also from the few loreblurbs we have for Araby, its also associated with Tzeentch. E.g. via the Golden Magus.
Sure Araby is not present. But next to Araby are the Tomb Kings and Nagash who also could be seen as rivals to Tzeentch more than to other chaos gods. Both are very magic heavy cultures, and especially the TK are all about preservation. Which Tzeentch likley hates more than other undead.

Giving Tzeentch at least desert and savannah bioms would make the most sense for him IMO

This is the truth. Quite simply CA probably did not test the experience of actually conquering a large territory. As Greasus for example, expanding into Cathay is damn near non viable since so much of the western border is desert, and then Savannah after that. So basically you've just got 2 actually viable directions to expand.

I think they might reorient some of the climates when they get into IE. Seems like a particular more line of care is going towards things like that.

We all know in realms of chaos the temperature is always 20-15 degrees with atleast one swimming pool every 50 meters..

Fighting Cathay is fun as tzeentch, which makes this a bit of a shame. Building a contiguous empire is essential for threat management in this game, but he has this awkward start where it’s easier to do so by going south until you wind up fighting Kislev instead.

Climates shouldn't be a thing for races that spread corruption (expect Skaven).

I really don't care for the climate suitability crap, especially for certain races. Chaos, Skaven, and vampires should instead be tied to their respective levels of corruption rather than the climate.
