Hey, Total War fans!

In the recent Update 1.3 Gameplay release, we implemented a change to improve ranged units' ability to fire on their enemies when a friendly squad is positioned between them and their target—even if the ranged units seem to have a clear line of sight (LOS) on the enemy. The change involved treating two overlapping units as a single "combined" unit, which would allow the ranged soldiers to carry out their fire orders more reliably.

Unfortunately, the fix was a bit overzealous... Not only did it address the LOS issue, but it allowed ranged units to stack and fire in a way that largely negates the importance of positioning your troops—a critical mechanic to the depth of the gameplay in Battles.

We are backing out that change in today's hotfix, though we plan to revisit the original issue in the future—so watch for less extreme changes in a future update!

Reverted the following change:
  • To prevent instances where ranged units hold their fire because a friendly unit is in their line of fire, overlapping units are now considered (by the game as) part of the same unit. This should ensure that ranged units can more consistently carry out firing orders.

    Honestly, I think that the next time you try to fix this issue, you should open a beta for us to test it first, this is the kind of issues that would have been avoided with one.

    I love how fast this was reverted. I'm sure you'll find a less troubling solution soon but the important thing was to remove the nonsense gameplay.

    Thank you. While ranged units need some changes in regard to handling LOS, the radical changes in the latest patch was not the right way to do it.

    It was a design decision so jarring for a real time strategy game I'd actively question the judgement of the person who made it.
    Request scorched body textures, and fire death effects. At least 30% of all damage in this game comes from fire sources. Request Fire for the Fire God DLC.

    too many cooks, let the professionals handle it and we will send feedback as we did with ranged. We are not payed to be testers. We don’t test, we play and send feedback.

    I like that they didn't try to play it off as if they were 'experimenting' or something. They just outright stepped up and took responsibility for the bad decision.

    Still no visual fix fot the black faced Bloodchruser RoR or the hair glitch on the Heartseeker RoR.

    I am happy that issue is getting fixed, but what about the nurgle cultist issue, where he needs to take 25% of damage, so the cooldown will begin to go down, so he can use his demon summoning ability, in campaign is not really an issue, because AI will attack no matter what but still annoying, but in a PVP match is a problem, could you not make it so he just need to take damage in general, to make the cooldown go down, like one hits and it's cooldown is now 30 to 29, and one hits more 29 to 28 instead, and it would still work with Plaguelord's Blessing on the battle maps.
