Campaign runs smooth at 100+ fps when I press K to remove the UI. (Medium graphics preset) But when the UI is on it gets choppy with heavy stuttering/freezing. I also noticed that gpu usage goes down sharply when the stuttering happenes and the UI is on. Does anyone here have any experience with this?
I have a similar experience on the IE map but not on the RoC map.
First the game plays fine on the IE map but after some time the campaign map starts to stutter and eventually the game crashes when navigating some UI menus. These lags seemingly are only fixed after restarting my PC, i.e. the map stutters right away instead of after a few minutes on a freshly booted system. The lags also happen during the IE benchmark (the RoC benchmark is fine), regularly dipping into single digits FPS.
Changing graphics settings changes the average FPS, but the stuttering occurs even on the lowest of settings. I'm running a few mods (disable intros, respec lords/heroes) but disabling them does not fix the stuttering.
Disabling the UI on the campaign map seems to fix the stuttering.
The game is installed on a SSD and I'm using a AMD Ryzen 7 3700X and RX 5700XT.
Wow, I'm getting the same thing. Turning off the UI dramatically improves the frame rate in areas where the game gets choppy. I wouldn't have thought of that.
To visualize the experience I have, I ran the IE benchmark on lowest settings and the FPS graph looked like this:
Afterwards, I ran it again, but at the 1:00 mark I hit "k" twice to disable the UI and at 2:00 I enabled it again:
And opposed to my previous statement these drops also happen on the RoC campaign map/benchmark. I am not sure if this was already present in 2.0 or if it was introduced in 2.1:
Disable UI between 0:30 and 1:00 (although the flyover of the actual realm of chaos seems to improve the FPS no matter what):
End as final comparison the FPS graph of the battle benchmark:

Caveat: I'm running the game via Proton on Linux.
