CA needs to find a way to implement existing mods into the base game!!!!

I don’t care how they do it, whether they just “copy + paste” the code, without telling somebody (even though this is the variant I would not prefer) or give the modders some money or anything, but some mods are just an upgrade to the existing game and there is no reason to make them not part of the base game.

Moreover, if CA treats this in the right way, mentions the original modders, and gives something back (like money or special wishes or hints in the game to honour their work), this would encourage the modding community enormously! Here are some mods that should be part of the base game. Why should CA do this? Because there is still no Mod-manager and it sucks to have always compatibility issues.

1. More character names (Immoratal Empires, all 23 races)
2. Reloading animations
3. Alternate Loading Screens all in one 3 4 K
4. Rotate All Lords and Heros
5. Building Progression Icons III

Other mods that aren’t as much as a no-brainer as the previous mentioned, though still should be included

1. Most of the variety packs for Heros (e.g. Cultist of Slaanesh Reborn, greatest of Daemons)
2. Mistwalker Reskin (silver)
3. Expanded electoral Machinations and intrigue

What I would like to see is:

    - The mod that allows you to save your camera preferences (rather than having to redo the same ones at the start of each campaign...)
    - The mod that allows you to reset the talent points of the confederate lords

Yes, you are right. I forgot these two.

    - a toggle option to reject AI diplomacy offers between turns
    - units cap options (sorry had too :P)
    - respect confederated characters.
    - skip opening game intro
"Fear me mortals, for I am the Anointed, the favored Son of Chaos, the Scourge of the World. The armies of the gods rally behind me, and it is by my will and by my sword that your weakling nations shall fall."

Building progress icons, better camera, one button respec (once), recruit defeated LL’s (toggle when player wants this) are the most important for me. But I have learned to live with these QoL mods :)

    As has been explained many times previously - this can't be done;

    1) There is a whole minefield of potential legal ramifications with trying to copy someone else's work

    2) CA can't guarantee how the mods were created. Do they cause unknown problems?

    3) CA can't fix something they didn't create if ot goes wrong.

    4) GW gave no approval for said changes.

In summary - you can't just copy paste mods. It doesn't work like that.

    1. It didn't stop other companies from using mods, like for example textures in the upcoming Witcher3 Complete Edition.
    2. Do people report problems with those mods? CA QA to the rescue!
    3. Unless the mods are written in an alien language, that shouldn't be a problem.
    4. I doubt GW's approval is needed for most things. In case it is, then get their approval.

Well, copy-paste won't work, but CA could pay modders and use their mods.

    1. There is no legal minefield for integrating steam mods into the base game. This is a non-issue. Modders have no copyright protection. Courts have repeatedly struck down this idea. CA can do whatever they want.

    2. They absolutely can. Anyone, you, me, CA can poke into the mod files and see EXACTLY what was changed/added. Mods aren't like proprietary software with encrypted source code. It's all out there in the open.

    3. Why not? I've fixed other people's mods before. You're acting like mods are some black box of content changes, which they're not.

    4. GW does not have carte blanche to approve every change CA wants to make. There are very specific areas such as new units, factions, and such that affect the larger Warhammer Fantasy Lore/tabletop, which requires GW input. GW has absolutely no say on whether or not riflemen have a reload animation.

You can in fact copy-paste a lot because mods are almost always based around the main game files. When I modded Karak Eight Peaks to give it 10 slots for Skaven, I didn't do it with some byzantine bespoke method. I just opened up the existing in-game table that defines it, and fixed it. When CA finally gets around to fixing this bug, they will literally make the exact same change I did. If I had published this mod, and they wanted to, they could literally just copy/paste my change into the main game file.

Now, this isn't to say this is how CA SHOULD always do this. Sometimes the developers can make much cleaner and better changes from scrap because they are professionals and have full access to the source code. Modders sometimes have to be a bit kludgy when changes they want to make aren't directly accessible.

Aa soon as CA start paying them they become employees or contractors for CA. Meaning CA then has a host of legal loopholes to jump through.

Again it's not that simple. If it was - everyone would do it all the time.

CA can't take the mods, but they can just use their ideas as they have done several times now especially with their race reworks.

While certain companies did integrate mods into their games (Starsector, Age of Wonders, etc), or at least took ideas from mods (CA included btw), it simply won't happen because of bureaucracy issues. And no, company can't just take something that was made for non-profit use and use it to make profit. It is an actual act of breaking the law, not sure how it's called in English, Private Inurement maybe. My friend made some stuff for Warframe Tennogen (basically upload a skin of weapon to Steam Workshop and if it meets the criterias - it will be added to the game and sold for money), and he had to sign a **** of various documents that he agrees with the terms and has no issues with the company. It's not that easy in the modern world.
Now I am known as "numbers".

If it was simple to implement then CA would do it. Again, it’s probably one of those legal or technical issues the forum doesn’t need to worry about.

Quality of life improvements just don't seem high on CA's list of priorities in any of their games tbh. The couple we got in WH3 are probably all we're gonna get.

    What loopholes?

It is simple enough, and many companies do use fan creations one way or another. All it takes is a few well-placed signatures and voilà.

Even if it is was that simple (which is is fundamentally not by the way); but let's assume it is for a second. Organising said documentation and signatures is still a monumental feat. Also what if the modder isn't in the UK?

It's just not a functional solution and very few companies do it for this very reason.

Very few companies officially integrate mods, probably because there is a legal contract involved and why not simply allow players to use mods as they are now?

If it was that simple every games company would do it.

But the problem is, modders are doing a better job than CA. Which is unacceptable.

This is the daily bread of legal teams. If anything, it is a matter of cost-effectiveness. Unlike, let's say, fan art-based Fortnite skins, there is no gain in it for CA because they won't sell it. It could possibly be cheaper to make the mod-like feature in-house instead of purchasing it.

Ultimately, companies, including CA, outsource all the time.

Anyway, where there's a will, there's a way, and this game could use a lot of quality of life and flavour improvements.

Anyone saying Mods cannot be used or taken is full of ****. Warcraft and Blizzard do this hard core all the time with a simple in legal contract clause when you play the game. CA can implement the same nonsense. Any ideas or mods for the game is their property now by default. The truth is CA dont care. They really dont. Not that this is a bad thing as Blizzard use of others mods and work is parasitic as hell.

That won't work retroactively though. If there is no such thing in the clauses for TWW getting this in now won't really work.

True. Becuase they are lazy. They could done this and had 2 opportunities to do so (WH2, WH3). The point is they are lazy. They clearly dont care and just hope people are not anti mod (funny enough alot of people seem anti mods) since modders fix the many bugs and quality of life things they refuse to since game 1 many years ago.

Too late now though to solve this.
