I have had ideas about a future total war game. Hopefully there would be a late roman era game, like Attila, but would go from AD 395 to about AD 900 and have some cool game mechanics. I'm guessing there's mods for that though? Just thinking 🤔. It would be cool to see what CA would do with that time period! Anyone's thoughts are welcome on this idea.
That would just be an extended Attila. Was already possible to take over/wipe out the map in a much shorter time span so the extra years don't really bring anything.
That's a good point! I just want to see the Byzantines aka eastern Romans deal with the Arab invasion of the 7th century. I think that would be cool. There's should be a game that deals with the era of 6th to 7th century. Is there a mod that deals with the era? Anyone know?!

A more focused game on that time frame and region then yeah I could see that, might fit well as a Saga title or a side campaign for M3 if they keep them, could also possibly be an early start date for it.

Yes true! I should add maybe the 8th century and the siege of Constantinople. Thanks for the input! #early medieval #totalwar medieval 3
Best ca can do is medieval 3 with chapter packs. Huge amount of replayability, different starting positions, cultures, mechanics etc. However focus seems more on expanding into more profitable segments like first person shooters and putting total war on a back track. Bad news for us total war fans.

Yes! medieval 3 with chapter packs and different cultures and mechanics would be a good surprise. Kinda like what they did with rome 2, I think? As a fellow fan of historical total war since Rome 1. I would be bummed if CA put historical total war on the back track. That would be bad news.
What do you want to see in a new historical total war?!
My favourite historical era is "Pike and Shot" 1500-1699 , I would like to see TW game from this era, but Medieval 3, Rome 3, Empire 2 or Napoleon 2 would be great for me too
In mechanics - I do not like political and character micromanagment like in Attila, Thrones of Britania or Three Kingdoms, O hope future total War would be like older TW - Medieval 2 or Shogun 2
I would like to have some kind of unique faction mechanics and features like in Warhammer or Troy, which inteteracts with battle part
No, I do not want single unit heroes/general
I want meaningful building system without many small %modiefiers , I want to do interesting strategic decions, not to fix the puzzle (Attila). The buildings can have money upkeep like in 4X games

I totally agree with everything you said! Great idea for the new historical total wars. Pike and Shot could work with the mechanics you mentioned. Even Medieval 3, Rome 3, Empire 2, and Napoleon 2 could be done well with the mechanics you brought up.
I would love to see a total war rome that spanned the whole world. With Chinese and india civilization included
While I do love the ancient world as well, I'd rather see CA make an Empire 2 the nearly world spanning TW game.
It's just that with all the limitations of the ancient world, it does seem like it would be REALLY hard to eventually try to do stuff like moving far enough east to conquer China and such. But I'm sure you know what I mean.
And I just think that there's a whole lot that they could do with an Empire 2 that actually spans the 1700s as its main time period.

Yeah you have a point but it would be cool too see a expanded ancient map. A Empire 2 would be great.

Yeah.
I just feel like an Empire 2 might be one of the only ways they could make a even bigger campaign map than Warhammer 3's Immortal Empires without making it super cramped.
I would think that one thing that would help them do that would be to change the way they make DLC (at least for this particular TW game) by making the DLC packs more similar to "old timey" expansion packs that add in a whole bunch of land to the campaign map along with a good number of playable factions from the added territories.
Though I do think that one little interesting thing they could possibly do would be to have some areas of the world be kind of "province-less" areas cause attrition to the vast majority of armies, like the Sahara and some parts of the middle east.

Empire 2 is probably better for a world 🌍 map. They should do DLCs like the older totalwars. The Province-less idea 💡 is something to see if they would do that?

I don't think that making it the literal full world would be a good idea.
I just think that some factions, while certainly flavorful, such as the Maori of New Zealand and the Hawaiians, would be at an EXTREME disadvantage, even compared to the likes of the Native American Tribes. They have no access to guns or cavalry, so they'd be little more than archers and melee infantry.
And there's also the problem of faction uniqueness.
Let's say that they do eventually add in ALL of North America to an Empire 2's campaign map.
Now let's try to come up with unique things for about, let's say, 20, Native American factions. I'll give you a minute.
..., it's not as easy as you might think huh?
I think it'd end up being the same sort of thing as trying to make every minor faction in Warhammer 3's IE campaign playable, or something like that.
And as far as the whole "province-less" idea is really more akin to making places like the large deserts like the Sahara and those in the Middle East and the like actually dangerous to just try to cross without a plan.
The idea is to make there be certain things like "corridors" or paths that are practically a province themselves, which are things like forts and trade settlements, so that they are a key part of securing such areas.
And only certain factions should be able to have less attrition from such areas.
