What happened to Dave?

I noticed today that Davedave, one of the most prolific posters here, has been banned:

Not sure if it's permanent or just a temporary suspension. Can't say I was a fan of his aggressive and often intentionally disruptive style, but I thought that bans were reserved for bots, porn etc. Did anything serious happen in the community during the Christmas vacations?

Getting a permanent ban is probably reserved for real troublemakers/trolls. I would assume Dave might have just used one swear word to many or disrupted a topic once to often and got a time-out.

And this topic here, might already break rule#8

so it might get closed soon and it might be unwise to discuss much further ;)

I think this paragraph is referring to the infracted members publicly disputing the moderator's verdict and not neutral commentary from third parties. The thread might be off-topic, though, although there's sometimes a certain leeway (like with the username or the harassment threads).

In any case, do you think it's permanent? I can't distinguish between permanent and temporary bans. Does in both cases your avatar get greyed out? Or is there any distinction? It would be great if some moderator could clarify on this regard.

Discussing moderator actions in public is indeed against the rules

You should delete the content of the thread and ask for a moderator to close it.

He is still in the top posters activity thingey. So that should make it temporary. Ephraim Dalton got wiped when he got permabanned otherwise he'd still be on that list.

Alright, thanks for the confirmation! Any moderator feel free to close the thread. I can't edit threads, because it often bugs out and doesn't let me touch the post.
