Warhammer 3 won't even open properly

I received it as a gift from a friend on steam, downloaded and installed on to my external hard drive without any issue, went to launch it and it launched... except the window is transparent. there's no game there, the only Indication that the game is even there is the name of the game in the top left of the screen.

I can get the options window up, that's it. I've verified the integrity of the files through steam to see if the game needed repairing, nothing. I've restarted my laptop, reinstalled steam and checked the steam library pathways, nothing there out of sorts.

please help if you can
