Iconic is whatever you think is iconic, not what a few WH ‘experts’ think.

Iconic is whatever most people think is iconic.
Not really. That's too loose a definition.
I am The Beast of Guanyin, The one who beasts 25 hours a day, 8 days a week, Vanilla Gorilla, The great bright delight, Conqueror of Mountains, Purveyor of wisdom, Official forum historian, Master Tamer of energy, the one they fear to name, Beastradamus, The Teacher, Master Unbiased Pollster, The Avatar of Tuesday, Chief hype Train Conductor, Uwu Usurper, Pog Wog Warrior, Poggers Patroller, Alpha of the species, Apex protector, Praetor of Positivity, Drybrush Disciple, Sophisticated Savage.

“relating to or of the nature of an icon; regarded as a representative symbol or as worthy of veneration.”

Iconic is a loose term because it can be used over varying contexts including personal choice.

Can anyone tell me the ‘icon of my childhood’, what represents something in my experience better than I? Of course not.

Now, a person in here can narrow those contexts but that wasn’t done at the beginning of the thread, so all the definitions and contexts can be used.

And if it’s ‘most’ then only one figure can be iconic

Most people can think multiple figures are iconic.

Iconic is a loose term because it can be used over varying contexts including personal choice.

Take it up with Rich. He's the one that used the term.

So? You used the word most and it’s pretty obvious that the cover boy for WHFB would be the widest known so, Karl Franz is iconic because ‘most’ people would’ve seen him. I wasn’t into WH but I always knew who Karl Franz was.

With that said, there’s no sign of the word ‘most’ in the definition so in that sense you’re wrong anyway.

Take what up with Rich? I made a statement of fact not a complaint. Without context iconic is a loose term - fact.

You're misinterpreting the use of 'most'. It's not 'the character that is considered iconic by the most people'. It's 'any character most people consider to be iconic'.

Most people would consider Nagash to be iconic. Most people would consider Thanquol to be iconic. I don't think most people consider Tamurkhan to be iconic.

But as was stated, iconic exists over multiple contexts so, this idea of ‘most’ is made up by you. Sure, you can change the meaning of iconic if you like or you can even pretend to know what ‘most’ people think but, that’s all it is.

Eshin assassins fighting over the interpretation of a word.

Who cares? The OP was clear. He wanted to know what's the first thought we had when we read that statement from CA. Say it and move on.

The complaints about some peoples preferences started a while back.

The question was ‘what do you think is iconic?’ Which indeed could be anything.

In the era of AoS I’d say a lot of WHFB is iconic.

Queek/Clan Mors, the icon of Skaven evolution.

you can even pretend to know what ‘most’ people think

I don't have to pretend. The purpose of the thread is to gauge who people think is iconic. You can simply observe the results.

A thread containing about 20 people? 🤦🏻 Please get me those numbers, may even get into the double digits.

I also think Tarmukhan is pretty iconic, like most who get their own major book and game release within an overall iconic setting.

On a more important note. Is this icon appearing in the update and CD DLC? If they are I imagine they’ll be a FLC.. so, I’d rather it isn’t Thanquol 😑

I think we all know Thanquol needs to come as the final Skaven DLC with Verminlords, Stormfiends and whatever more they want to add.

And if he comes as FLC, then Skreech will be the LL of that DLC.

As a big skaven fan, for me Verminlords as the Avatar of the Horned Rat are also very iconic.

But there are other beside the ones that were already mentioned like Crom the Conqueror and Egrimm van Horstmann or Bertrand the Brigant and his side kicks.

The only CM we care about.

For me the only good pick would be Nagash, whom is a major antagonist and fit well with a much needed VC rework. And so Norsca can get theirs in the next DLC alongside a new LL.

I don't like when the word iconic is thrown around because what I think is an icon may not come to mind for someone else.

It's pretty simple. If it doesn't come in the mind of someone else, it's probably not iconic.
