In my opinion, those abilities should be default in unit stats and not be toggle-able like formation abilities and other certain abilities.
Who doesn't want to rapid advance and trample enemy upon charge? Do you really need to hear your commander say "HeadHunt" or "Frenzy" first before you kill units properly?
I personally think that abilities can add a lot more to a TW game than some people may think, as if they'd implemented right, they can be really meaningful.
I mean, giving stuff like various Native American units in an Empire 2 things like the Rapid Advance from Attila would help them be able even the odds against European units.
Atleast you can see units forming testudo, shieldwall, phalanx, etc... before you can see buff in their stats.
Power-Up abilities like trample, headhunt, etc...? Sigh! Abilities should make sense.
How come a unit gets an instant bonus with a click of a button without doing anything?
Shouldn't they trample enemies whenever they are charging in the first place? Shouldn't they kill as many units as possible upon charging in the first place as well?
So if you didn't click these button, are they charging softly by default?
It’s not a new concept, it’s been used since Medieval 2 and was popular, giving factions a unique edge.
Rousing speeches, a combined battle cry can be used to give troops a second wind.
This is a game, based on warfare, it’s never been a simulator and never will be. If that’s what you’re after then I imagine future releases will be disappointing.
M2 - Crusades
The Turks - Nur ad-Din- Light of Faith - Increases attack speed and morale of troops for a limited time. Can be used more than once per battle, but also requires a period of time before it can be used again.
The Byzantine Empire - Manuel Comnenus - Byzantine Politics - Several enemy units succumb to infighting and refuse to move for a limited time. No range limit, but can only be used once per battle.
Egypt- Saladin - Righteousness of Faith - sets all units that have not broken to maximum morale for a limited time. Can be used more than once per battle, but needs a period of time before it can be used again.
Kingdom of Jerusalem - Richard the Lionheart - Heart of the Lion - Immediately rallies all troops who are fleeing and returns their morale to normal. Can be used more than once per battle but needs a period of time before it can be used again.
Principality of Antioch - Phillip II - Flower of Chivalry - Increases attack power and stamina of his troops for a limited time. Can be used more than once per battle, but requires a period of time before it can be used again.
I kind of disagree with that, as I would like to see CA give us the ability to turn our generals into buff wagons of sorts, by getting more than just a Rally ability alone.
Rousing speeches, a combined battle cry can be used to give troops a second wind..
Rally Ability is enough. No need for Second Wind.
Not really, there have been moments in battles where troops have managed huge feats on their own. Abilities are popular, that’s why CA started adding them.
Can someone differentiate what is the difference though?
Once you rally the troops again, they will get second wind though. Is it wrong?
It is like saying phalanx formation is different from steady ability.Shieldwall is different from steady ability.

Instead of focusing on tactic and maneuver, do you really want to have clickfest of buttons?
How about "Rapid Advance" button instead of just making them run? How about "Hide Button" instead of just automatically hide?
More buttons to click, the more fun. 😄😄😄
Well, the way I would explain it is that the Rally is more about a general inspiring his troops to either keep fighting or rejoin the fight, where as the Second Wind ability has to do with unit's stamina.
And the formations are certainly different than activatable abilities.
Formations are more about units, well, forming a special formation that usually has strengths and weaknesses, while active abilities are more like temporary bonuses that only last a certain amount of time.
Rapid Advance is supposed to give a unit a boost in speed so that they can close with the enemies faster or more quickly flank an enemy unit or something like that.

It's the same, once you got inspired by your general's rally, you adrenaline rush will kick-in.
How will your stamina boost without being rallied or inspired? Your stamina will refresh but your morale is down? Hmmmmm ....
Rapid Advance is supposed to give a unit a boost in speed so that they can close with the enemies faster or more quickly flank an enemy unit or something like that.
Shouldn't units automatically rapid advance when you make them charge on the flank of enemy unit?
What is the difference when just simply making them charge on the flank?
Are they charging softly if you didn't press "Rapid Advance" button?
The idea behind the second wind is to actually give that sort of adrenaline rush separately rather than at the same time.
And the Rapid Advance is basically just a speed boost for the unit that has it as compared to their normal running.
Such abilities are meant to add depth to the battles.
You didn't answer the questions though sadly.
Why would you want to make units to get second wind instantly without being rallied? What is their motivation? Stamina getting boost-up instantly without a reason? What is this, power-up?
Are you telling units are charging slowly if you didn't press Rapid Advance button? You are charging therefore you should automaticall rapid advance though...
By the way, what is your opinion with Trample Ability as well? Do you like it?
How come that would add depth? Clickfest. Pressing many buttons at the right time instead of tactics and maneuver?

No no no.
The abilities are sort of like power ups in a way, but ones you need to be smart about using, because most of them do have a fairly long cooldown.
And it's not a "clickfest" just because you have to sometimes click a button.
And some of those abilities do add to the tactical toolbox of a TW game if they're done right.
The thing with a Rapid Advance is to give a boost to a unit, by something like 30% or something, so that they can run even faster than they normally can.
Again, most abilities have to be used smartly, or that's certainly how it's supposed to be.

You still didn't answer any questions though...
Fir the 3rd time, are units not rapid advancing when charging? Are they charging slowly if you forgot to press the button?
Maybe you will be happy to see a "Hide Ability" that will make units suddenly hide with a press of a button instead of automatically hiding when in forest though...
Anyways, hope you enjoy clicking unnecesary buttons. You prefer clicks over maneuver, right?

No, I did answer the question, but it's seeming like you don't want to accept the answer that was given.
Oh no, clicking a button to activate a special ability takes so much time! The horror!
Seriously dude, it's just some special abilities and formations that DO add depth to the battles. It's not that complicated.

For the 4th time,
1. What makes stamina boost-up instantly without being rallied or inspiration to fight?
2. Are units charging slowly if you didn't press rapid advance button? Yes or No?
3. What is your opinion on Trample Ability when charging?
If you don't answer for the 4th time, it's fine...
I don’t remember having a click fest in M2 or Shogun 2. I still used tactics and it still mattered about positioning. Even on WH I consistently see battles being won in terms of movement, aggression and using abilities at the right time. If I just sat there and pressed buttons I’d lose.
The fact is special abilities are popular and I honestly don’t think they’re going anywhere.

*sigh*
1. It's just a special ability that gives such a boost.
2. No, they're running, but the special ability makes them run even faster.
3. I don't really have a major opinion on the Trample ability that some heavy cavalry and elephants have, though I think it's just alright, as it gives a major bonus to the charge bonus of units but at the cost of some melee defense, which I think is an alright trade off.

1. You’ve got an elite unit who understands tactical situations. If we don’t run hell for leather now we are in serious trouble, everyone understands and everyone puts 110% in the run. Can you do this on every movement forward? No. 2. There’s a difference between your 3rd charge and a rousing.. ‘chaaaarrrge!’ 3. This could say something about the mindset of the attacker, stay in the charge longer, take time to injure people on the floor, push the horse further into formations. As apposed to hit and run, which you’d normally do.
1. Second Wind is a special ability. That's it, no explanation if it could happen with someone therefore why shouldn't everyone. If every units therefore very nice.
2. Rapid Advance will just make soldiers run even faster so he means that charging units don't care about their charge because they need the command first before charging fully with all their might
3. Units don't trample enemies during charge unless commanders ordered them. Very nice!
What is next,
"Brace Abity" - boost the defense when clicked at the right time even though the unit is already braced "Hide Ability" - units will just disappear if you click at the right time as units will not automatically hida "Climb up fast Ability" - units will climb ladders and towers even faster if you click this button
Another suggestion since people love Special Abilities. "Rest Ability" - units stamina will go to fresh from exhausted if you click this button "Heal Wound Ability" - several units standing up again even though they were stabbed already "Flaming Blade Ability" - swords and weapins will ignite buffing up charge bonus melee damage

Lots of Abilities, oh yeah!!!
I’ve explained those 3 points, it appears you’ve just ignored that explanation. You’re doing what you’ve accused others of.
No offense dude, but you're really starting to come off as a bit of a troll.
Both dave and I have explained these things to you and you simply REFUSE to accept our answers.
