Best selling DLC and games?

I'm just curious but does anyone have any information on how DLC and how each WH game has sold? It would be interesting to see what the best selling LP or game was.

Also how games have sold compared to other TW games would be interesting.

I'll take throw away lines from interviews as I doubt there's any actual data publicly available.

Thanks

The best selling DLCs were both the TK and Vampire Coast according to CA.

Best selling game was WH3 even if it was beyond the unreasonable expectations of the Higher Ups. But it sold better than WH1 and 2 together at launch day. And that by a huge margin.

WH2 sold worse than WH1 according to CA.

    So in terms of sales:
    1. WH3
    2. WH1
    3. WH2

That information might only be for CA only. Back in the day we had Steamspy to answer something like that roughly, but Valve did take measures to block the information gathering.

We can assume that game#2 thanks to ME 2 and a lot of QoL did sell better, but people would also have picked up game#1 for ME then anyway. We can furtehr assume that the "most popular" DLC might conatin the most fun/imba Lls. Like Grom with Warden&Paunch, or Ikit Claw with Warlock&Prophet. But since no DLC is a real waste, people might still buy enough of the old DLC and fill their collection just at a different pace.

Since game#3 opened also up the market to Windows Store/Gamepass and EGS, there also comes now more variety into what sells wher the most, or overall. Again, only CA can make a final call here with the complete data from all three corners. game#3 on Steam however had the most initial launch player numbers, so its launch was probably the best. Even if pretty fast people who actually played saw some big problems with the launch version, and one year later for example the unhappiness with the RoC campaign or siege battles still continues.

In case of sales numbers compared to historical TW titeles, we also hardly can judge. I mean Rome 2 has sold a lot over the year. Hard to say if the three Warhammer titles have combined cracked that number. What we can see
    https://steamcharts.com/search/?q=total+war
would be current/past player numbers (for Steam only). And while the first TWW game does hold up fair enough, the second and third game once they got ME and IME are really putting metal to the pedal. Average player numbers of 20.000 are pretty good. And every time you see a new DLC drop, the numbers spike to various degrees and then just fall back the following months. So yes, DLCs sell well and the whole ME/IME concept helped keep people constantly playing. Overall, this business model did succeed. And if we look at the tragic end of Three Kingdoms, it seems to work way better then the classic "game + handful DLC, finished." approach. Even if CA has to pay royalties for the Warhammer IP.

Depends in the context of what you’re asking.

Launch day or launch week? Or in all time.

But it terms of say, launch weeks it goes.

    1. WH3
    2. WH1
    3. WH2

But obviously game 2 eventually overtook came 1 in terms of sales due to the massive support and ME and the like. I don’t know if game 3 has yet I assume it has. But Game 3s been riddled with problems for so long it’s only just now, a year, after release finally, seemingly coming to an end with its problems.

In terms of DLC for launch day or week Warden and Paunch sold the most I believe. That was the most successful dlc in terms of rapid sales. Warden and Paunch was really good though tbf. Both the High Elves and Greenskins got great new lords and mechanics. They also both got really good new units between them.

Typically when a Lord pack dropped one side was always clearly favoured over the other especially when the skaven were involved. I used to think CA had extreme bias for the Skaven.

When prophet and warlock dropped the Skaven mechanics and units were FAR better than the Lizardmen. This happened with their Wood Elf Lord pack as well. That one led to extreme blowback for CA however since the bias between the Two was massive given the Wood Elf mechanics compared to Throt were a true joke which harmed the sales of the dlc and led to CA having to fix the Wood Elves side of it.

I wouldn’t say that WH2 necessarily overtook WH1. Because everyone still needed WH1 for ME. So the game was still purchased long into WH2s life cycle.

According to SteamSpy or one of the others it did state that according to the limited data they had that WH2 did indeed take over WH1 in sales, probably due to the quality of the DLCs WH2 was indeed a slow burner but eventually took off.
