Also it's worth adding that it seems to be affecting my adobe flash(newest version) somehow. After I'm forced to reboot the computer it sometimes doesnt work until after another restart.

Same here. Here's my thread. http://forums.totalwar.com/showthread.php/35256-Fall-of-the-Samurai-Locks-up-my-PC-multiple-times

Wait a moment, this may be pure coincidence, but you seem to have the same Video card series as me ( AMD Radeon HD 7900 Series). Maybe the newest Radeon HD videocard series are causing the lock-ups.

EDIT: As there is no description of the issue, let me add this here.

Shogun 2 and FotS can cause lock ups when playing battles or on the campaign map. This is completely random and can occur after 10 minutes or after a hour.

First it seemed to happen with the AMD Radeon 7*** HD series, AMD's new flagship. However, this seems to be unlikely as several people reported almost the same issue, only with a different videocard.

    _________________________________________________________________________________

Several things have been tried but didn't fix the Issue:

    - Using all of the available drivers for the AMD Radeon 7*** HD Series, one by one ( was an attempt for ppl with the AMD Radeon 7*** HD series)

    - Updating Audio drivers, Updating windows

    - verifying game cache

    - Not a heat issue. No one seems to be having heat problems.

    - Starting shogun2.exe with Windows Xp service pack 2/3 etc

    - Not a Power Supply Unit Issue. it is already stated shogun 2 worked fine before the new Patch.

    - Playing shogun 2 in DirectX 9 mode instead of Direct X 11

    - Removing Flash and manually installing it

    - New: Reinstalling the game

    - New: Using Game Booster + Advanced System Care scan + Repair

Well if it is the videocard series, then I think CA will be unable to fix this. I will start emailing AMD, maybe they can take a look at this issue.

Just remembered something. 2 days before the latest patch, thus the release of FOTS, I did play a shogun 2 campaign and a RotS campaign. This may indicate that there's no direct issue with our videocards, however indirect coding on CA's side could conflict with the 7900 Series.

Edited both RotS and regular campaign in the days just prior to Fall of the Samurai and encountered only once that the game simply crashed to windows. But thats a minor one time event. Now it's pretty much unplayable.

Try updating the sound driver to something AFTER STW2 release (like 2012). Check your sound chips VENDOR homepage instead of windows update or mainboard vendor (both usually do not release much updates after the initial driver launch package).

Downloaded the latest edition of the firmware(USB headset, Razer Megalodon) just this afternoon.

I have been having this issue on and off as of late. It appears to be linked to Steam overlay. Sometimes I won't have any locking up at all, and other times the game will lock up for a minute or two whenever Steam overlay does something. If somebody starts playing a game, signs on/off, talks to me, or if I try to open overlay itself, the game will lock up.
This issue has surfaced recently for me in both Men of War: Assault Squad and Shogun 2 post FoTS patch.

All I do is keep restarting Steam until the planets align and the Steam overlay doesn't act up. I haven't tried disabling Steam overlay to confirm this yet though. I have just noticed that every lock up I have happens to coincide with Steam overlay doing something.

I'm running a EVGA GTX 570, so I don't think it is a GPU compatibility problem.

I tried disabling the Steam overlay, but that didn't help either. I suppose it was just a coincidence. Sometimes I can get the game to work for hours without a lock up, and sometimes I can't play more than 2 minutes without one.

It isn't the Steam overlay, atleast for me. whenever it locks up, I can wait until the weekend is over, nothing's going to change.
This is an issue on CA's part, I think.

However, If it was a more global issue, there would be more than three people having this issue.

I am wondering... A_Parked_Car, what videocard do you have ? If you have the same one as me Eworc, the problem can most likely not be fixed by CA at all.

Interesting. This changes things. I'll try to install it on a PC with a GTX 570. Let's see if it locks up again.

@Iscaran. I also disabled all plug ins. Didn't fix the issue. Could the latest video drivers be causing this ? I still find it hard to believe that barely anyone is experiencing this ( me, Eworc and A_parked_Car). Especially because Me and Eworc have the same videocard, yet A_Parked_Car has a completely different one.

I hope CA can understand the frustration. We don't just get lock-ups when playing FOTS, but also when we play Shogun 2, or the DLC Rise of the Samurai.

It's quite random, only when i'm playing battles MP and SP. the game locks up and screen fezzes pretty much and all i hear is the the music broken music replaying, only way to get out of it is to restart my dam comp.

I also have the 7970 latest drivers. ALso this is the only game i have that has this issue.

Another one with the AMD 7900 series. I start to think CA didn't test their game at all on the latest videocards ( mostly Nvidea and AMD).

Oh, I am so frustrated how this game is still being advertized as 'AMD optimized'.

Why oh why release a game when Both Nvidea and AMD release their new flagships ( which being a major improvement).

It certainly is beginning to look like there is a pattern with the 7900 series, given that we encounter the exact same situation. Think GrudgeNL might be on to something

Just registered on the forum to report the same thing is happening with me. I have a 7970 crossfire setup, which I've tested both with cf enabled and disabled - the game locks up a little into playing it. I don't think I've gone through a ssingle battle yet. I haven't had issues on the campaign map, although that might be entirely chance based. The PC goes into a hard lock-up and requires a reboot.

    Well,
I dunno but using 285, 570 and 580 GTXs (which are NOT the new flagship NVidia cards- that would be the 680 still not available in consumer quantities...) I have not been able to reproduce this problem. While it MAY be that there is a special driver issue with 7xxx hardware causing the issue, parked car may have a different issue altogether that simply happens to act similar (as most problems do).

It is also possible that we have simply uncovered a new forontier by actually touching the 64-bit OS's upper-bound within the 32bit application limit. I had not thought this possible under current conditions, but I haven't done any tests with 7xxx series cards since I can't justify a ridiculous price point for them at the moment when their drivers are liklely to be immature.

I have edited several posts within this thread for resons that should be obvious to the posters. Please keep it together while a few of us look into this a little more.

Please post your DXDiags, so we can SEE what the similarities may be. Parked car may want to post his because I think there is a different explanation for his.

    Thanks N3g!
    Two questions:

Which drive has your OS and which has Steam?

IS anyone else running RAID and where is your S2/FotS starting up (in which drive)? (I can already See Eworcs, I will go hunt for Grudges presently)

Both steam and my OS are on C:

Also just making a small list. The following people experience Entire PC Lock-ups on Shogun2/FOTS ,and own a radeon HD 7900 Series video card:

    Me ( grudgenl)
    Eworc
    Warchamp84
    n3gotiator

4 people who experience the same problem( all have AMD's new flagship). I really start to think it has to do with 7900 series. Or coincidence has reached an entire new level.

will update the list if more people report their lock-up.

Since A_Parked_Car has a different videocard, I think A_Parked_Car has a similiar problem, just slightly different as ours.

    Thanks for that.

Yeah, confirm, Parked Car is something else. Problems with S2 and another title plus getting S2 to work after cache verify means "other".

    SNAP
Doh... How stupid of me. Can everyone all tell me what their power unit is? Maker and model. If possible it would be also very important if you can give me an estimate of how old the unit is. Thanks. Very real possibility at least some of this is 12v+ related.

    EDIT:
@Grudge, thanks for the info... Any link to guy #4 would be helpful especially if he already laid out a DX

Hmm sounds plausible. Still doesnt explain how the regular shogun 2 was working before FOTS's release. I mean, I should've had a lock-up 2 weeks ago when I played a co-op campaign with this videocard.

Anyway, I dont know the maker and model. I bought it from a certain dutch site. I tracked down the unit, but it doesnt say the maker. Anyway, my PSU is a 750 Watt silent Power Unit. Type: ATX 2. Mobo connection: 1x ATX 2 (24-pin)

This model is only 4 months old ( bought it 4 months ago).

Quite... However, could you give me the link? I need the 12v+ rails info. If its a no-name, its not reassuring...doh! :)

There is nothing on the side or bottom of the unit to indicate who made it or the 12+v number of rails and capacity vs total wattage?

Nope nothing and on the site theres not a single bit of info on the 12V rails. I will email the company. Although, after some searching, my power supply is somewhat close to a CoolerMaster Real Power Pro 750 watt Power Supply.

More info on my Power supply. hope it helps.

I am almost certain it's a coolermaster, the entire site sells different coolermaster computer parts.

    connectors:
    5.25" 4
    3.5" 1
    S-ATA 8
    PCI-Ex 1 x PCIe 6, 1 x PCIe 8

    cooler: 12cm

i cant find anything about the 12V+ rails. I'll continue searching.
