(Steam) cache won't verify

XxaPXxaP Junior MemberPosts: 8Registered Users
Hi forums,
I just picked up Empire & Napoleon GOTY from Gamestop/Impulse and installed everything through Steamworks.
But when trying to verify my Napoleon cache (after adding the keys for the two dlc's) I can't seem to verify my cache.
It says "1 files failed to verify and will be reacquired", but alas, it won't reacquire no matter what I try.
Any suggestions would be appreciated..

I have not tried uninstalling/reinstalling yet as this monster is over 20gbs, but I notice that helps some people in other situations with Napoleon - like missing maps.

Also the game loaded up just fine, and I was able to set everything to 'ultra' with no crashes.

Firewall settings ? (allowed steam as exception)
    Same for antivirus config ?

Try running the steam client with run as administrator and/or disable the windows UAC (user account control)

    Thanks for a quick response!
However I tried all suggestions, UAC was already disabled and both Steam and Napoleon were already marked safe.
Running as admin didn't change things either, and I still get the same error message. But the target file is never 'reacquired', and I've restarted Steam 3-4 times.
And sorry for calling it a monster, it was meant as flattery! Actually it downloaded in around 45 minutes - which is pretty darn good for any game, let alone a 20+ gigger.

I'd suggest making a ticket with Steam support.

    https://support.steampowered.com/

They can be it a bit slow/patronising, but you'll eventually get an answer out of them.

Yup....it might be worthwhile to try to close steam, then delete the steamclient.registry.blob file.

Then restart steam => update steam client => then verify game cache.

Tried all the suggestions and it's made no difference so far.
Submitted a ticket to Steam and if that doesn't work I'll try a reinstall.

How much free disc space do each of you have on C: drive? I hope it's more than 20gb.

    Post your dxdiag.

Off-topic. In Shogun2, check the gfx.log.txt to see if your settings have been downgraded.

Steam wrote me back and said to simply ignore the warning. This is a known glitch, and the files should be there and work properly.

If you haven't tried this already, exit Steam, then go to C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\STEAM and delete the following:
    APPUPDATESTATS.BLOB
    CLIENTREGISTRY.BLOB

Then restart Steam (it will update) and try to validate the Napoleon cache.

I have NTW since day one from a CD .And i have done hundreds of cache verifications and always ,always you have one that left over.
So its "part" of the game .

    Thank you Nicklaus .
Do you have anything on how to avoid continuous ctd´s with NTW ,that are part of the game?

I'd just like to confirm that you have tried the initial part of my suggestion, deleting the two .blob files and then performing the verification, before we move on to other possible solutions. Deleting those two files is an important first step before verifying.

Ok second verification but now i still have one file failed to verify.
But Nicklaus ,next time you suggest something to the members, please test it and then post it confirming that it works.
Now how do i know that your suggestion is valid when i continue to have the same problem that i had before ?
I´m thinking now, should i reinstal the files that you wrote for us to delete ?
What do i do now ?

The files that you deleted are in the Steam folder. Deleting them causes no issues because when you restart Steam, they are automatically recreated, so there is no problem there. For the crashes to desktop that you are experiencing, please post your dxdiag as that will provide more information that I can use to make further suggestions and rule out common issues.

I deleted both the files you indicated, restarted and updated Steam, and verified the cache. Now it's down to 1 file failed to verify.

My system cache (page/swapfile?) is using 'automatic' settings at the default C: drive location on the SSD.
My Steam folder, and Napoleon, are on a secondary HDD.

DxDiag probably adviseable. If its a 64bit, quite possible you're right, Irish, maybe pagefile issue, especially with an SSD. Data drive free size won't matter on default. On the other hand could be any of a few other issues which we can't see without a Dx.

The pagefile (swapfile) is located on I:\ ?
If it is try freeing up space there or move it to the WDC HDD (non-SSD disc and see if that helps somewhat).

Also try without the physics card.

I re-downloaded Napoleon after having not played the game, in very long time. When i downloaded it fully, i validated it, and i get a message that there is one file missing and it needs to be validated.

I looked that up online and someone claimed i do not need it to play the game, fair enough. I started up the game started a campaign. Picked Austria a few turns happen, then a crash black screen. Tried about 10 times now still the same thing.

I have played this game before no problems, so have no clue why its crashing like this now? Anyone know?
