Movie playback help please

I've recorded some World of Tanks game movies on FRAPS but my video's freeze when I try to play them back on my PC, any help please?

These things are huge (3-4 gigs) and I've tried to play them on Windows media player, Realplayer, DIV X player and Quicktime player and they either refuse to run or start to stutter after a few seconds.

Windows movie maker will quite happily shrink them down but they then lose a lot of picture quality and are no use for what I want them for.

All I'm really looking to do is play them back so I can take crystal clear screenshots from them -any ideas?

    Doh, I wish I could help...

    Sorry, I'm a movie playback ignoramus! Whenever that comes up I make my oldest son handle that stuff! I'll ask him if he has any idea when I see him tomorrow.

    @Shire

    Do you have any codec pack's installed?
    What player are you using? Have you tried VLC Media player and/or Mediaplayer Classic?

    1) uninstall all codec packs
    2) Try this one: http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/
    3) if this fails use GSPOT to identify any missing codecs: http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x/index.htm
    4) Download and install just the one missing codec from: http://www.free-codecs.com/

    This 4 step approach Never failed for me.

    Wow thanks for the help guys, I tried MPC and it played the file perfectly but it wouldn't let me use Fraps with it which is one of the things I need, also I tried a corrupted music video I have which all media players have trouble with (they desynch when they hit a certain part of the track) MPC crashes when it gets there.

    VLC however was an amazing programme not only did it play the file it also allowed Fraps to take screenshots from it and when I tried the corrupted file on it it still stumbled at the corrupted part of course however somehow and I don't know how it did it but it corrected for the error and did not lose synch.

    VLC for the win ;)

    It rocks, doesn't it? And such a light program also. I am glad to hear that it worked for you. It will even open .bin files...
